Can you Switch Scotch Bottles?
I currently live in an area where I have had little luck finding a nice scotch decanter that also has a good seal on the lid. I could have one shipped from North American, but that seems risky and also somewhat expensive.
Since the decanters I have found seem to be poorly sealed and because I don't want my single malts to be greedily lapped up by the angels, I came up with an alternative plan, but I'm not sure if it will work.
I happen to really like the look of the Hibiki 12 bottle, and I am considering taking off the labels and using it as a decanter. If you consider it's look once it is all clear glass, I think it looks like a relatively simple, standard decanter. Not fancy or anything, but definitely not out of place. It also has a nice cork that should protect the precious syrup within.
My main concern, however, is whether or not it would alter the taste of the scotch I transfer over to it. I'm sure I can clean out the bottle quite well, so would that have any impact on the taste?
Also, what about the cork? Would it transfer some properties from the Hibiki?
Any input on this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help!
