Diageo Distiller's Editions
I agree with opelfruit in his comment above. Although I like malts matured and / or finished in ex-sherry casks, the Diageo releases of their Distiller's Editions are my least favorites. I feel they have all been haphazardly thrown together. As taste is subjective, I find them acrid in taste and sulphury on the nose. Maybe it is poor ex-sherry cask selection. Or even poor wood management where inferior casks were used and they finished the malts in ex-sherry to try to improve the taste. Whatever it is, I'm not fond of any of them.
There is only one Diageo Distiller's Edition that is highly collectible that commands a high price; that being the first release of the LAGAVULIN 1979DISTILLER'S EDITION released in 1995. Miniatures were also bottled of this edition. They went on to expand the Distiller's Editions beyond their Classic Malts Range.
