Help date The Glenlivet 18 year bottle, supposedly 25+ year old bottling
Picked up this bottle today at a local liquor store. The woman claims she's had it for at least 25 years.
Front label says:
The Glenlivet George smiths pure single malt scotch whisky aged 18 years aged only in oak casks this exceptional rare malt has matured in oak casks for more than eighteen years George j&g smith distiller in scotlandat the Glenlivet distillery banffshire product of Scotland 43%
Number on the bottom 0776 70mm 08 IN E
Well since no one replied, I figured I might as well open the bottle. The cork fell apart when I attempted to open it so I'm guessing it has been sitting around for a long while.
Tasting... It was quite boring and mellow. No real stand out notes or anything that sets it apart from many other scotch out there. I'm glad I was able to pick this up for a mere $30. If the new bottlings are anything like this one, I'd be disappointed paying $80
