Recommend Me Something American
I've been getting into enjoying whiskey for the past few months, and in July I will be visiting the US (I live in Brazil). I've been thinking of bringing back two or three bottles with me.
From what I've tasted (about a dozen or so different types of whiskey), the ones I liked most were Logan, Old Parr, Dimple 15-year-old, Jack Daniel's single barrel and gentleman's jack and Famous grouse 12-year blend.
I thought glennfidditch's 12-year-blend was interesting, but not that incredible.
I didn't much care for Dewar's 12-year-blend, and actively disliked Jameson and Knob Creek 9-year. If all I had were those last two, I'd quit drinking completely.
I know asking for recommendations is a little bit of a shot in the dark, but without any hints I will probably choose the bottle that looks nicest.
(I'll be going to Washington and NY, but it would probably be best if the stuff I would be looking for wouldn't be too hard to find, I'll probably be using public transportation for the most of the time).
Also, I'm willing to spend around 60-80 bucks a bottle.
Oh, I also disliked Chivas Regal 12-year old, though I only drank about a serving or two of it.
If you want to try a scotch that drinks like a bourbon, I highly recommend The Balvenie Double Wood. It's pretty readily available in NY.
