Old(-ish?) Johnnie Walker Black Label Duty Free Bottling
4 Attachment(s)
Hello Jojo, julito71, fransodk, wchurst, and the rest of you wise whisky folks!
Via my in-laws, I obtained on an older 1 1/5 liter Duty Free bottling of JW Black Label. I've perused this forum and others, but I'm still not sure when this JWBL was bottled. '70s? '50s? Or (gulp) '80s? :) Full disclosure, I'm not intending to sell it; I'm intending to enjoy it! Please see attached pics. Any help you all could provide with a date or date range would be much appreciated. Thank you very much! |

JW Black
Well you can be safe in the knowledge that its not 1980s as the metric system was in play then - in my opinion its mid 60s to late 70s. Definitely not 1950s
|
It could be the 80's as it was bottled for the US duty free market going by the content and strength. I don't know when this changed but it was definitely after 1980.

Thanks blenderm and fransodk.
Looking at pics of historical bottles from the johnniewalkerbottles site, I saw that the bottom label looked similar to those from the '70s, while the main label's font looked like it could be from either the '60s or the '80s. But then the 86.8 proof and "1.1/5 Quart" measurement threw me for a loop. And that led me here. :D |
Based on the label design, the Diageo Archive (Black & White's parent company) dated your bottle from the late 1970s/1980s.

Thank you, Jojo!!!

You're welcome!
