Display Case / Bar Setup
 

Hello -- I'm curious what you guys do for a liquor display case or bar setup. I'm just getting started and just have everything in my kitchen cabinet for now.

Looking for something not too fancy just to have maybe 10-20 bottles in and I'm curious what would work.

Here's mine. I'd love a proper bar in my place, but that's going to have to be the next place I think. This works well for now (most of the whisky is on the top 3 shelves), but I'm not sure what I'll do when the next few Glenfiddich ltd editions are released (yes, bit of a 'fiddich fan - 15 different releases and counting):

I'm lucky. My wife is a big fan of Crate and Barrel. We purchased the Rojo bookshelf, then I added some CabLED lights with 5 levels of brightness.
Overall, I'm very happy. It’s a beast with some serious load bearing capability and the black shelves look great in the evening.
If I had a bigger budget, I'd go for thick glass shelves and incandescent lights. When I first started keeping whisky in places other than the pantry, I took space in my wifes china cabinet (glass shelves, old school lights). The light coming from above and below make for some fantastic shades of amber.

That looks nice, I'd love to get something like that with doors. I'm afraid my cats would ruin a good bottle if they were just out in the open

Bought a little Ikea metal cabinet, goes well with the decor surrounding it and holds a modest amount of alcohol - not enough to get me into too much trouble, but enough to have a good selection.

The single malt selection is pretty weak at the moment but that will change.

Something to keep in mind ladies and gentlemen, when displaying your collection, avoid incandescent lighting as they put off UV rays. I used to have incandescent lighting then I switched over to LED, which does not admit UV light. It's also cheaper on power consumption. Just something to think about it!

Well, I'm not a preper but I do exercise my rights, at least while I still have them.:mad:
I have some assault rifles (as they call them), hunting rifles, lots of hand guns.
Carry permit, 10's of thousands of rounds.
Only 10 years ago i would have said about myself, he's nuts!!!.
Well guess what, I can sell all of this now for 3 times what I paid for it.
kind of like good investments.:D

Very nice. I am a hunter and only eat what what I hunt. Yes, my friends and I enjoy a good bottle of whisky when away. I've actually turned them all into scotch drinkers. cheers

Ah, do I see The Balvenie Tun 1401 Batch 3 on your shelf? Lucky man!!! :D I'll give you $15,000 for them (just kidding - but that IS awesome).

Modern LED's from Nichia, particularly the high CRI 119 and 219 emitters, have come a long way from the cold, lifeless LED's of recent past. Warmer tints which are easily available now, look virtually undetectable in comparison to incandescent bulbs, with the added benefits of low UV levels, longer life, lower power draw, less heat generation and smaller fixture size.

If I had a half-dozen Tun 1401's and a whack of Ardbeg like that I'd keep it under lock and key as well! That's the stuff dreams are made of.

This is such an excellent assortment and I especially like the way you've got yourself stocked up to never run out.

That's not my main ammo safe, it's just overflow.:D
BTW. I loved my visit to colorado. Beautiful place.

I'm already part way there. I have the burner from my chicken wing fryer.
I don't have the know how to design and build the still.
Anyone know of a company that makes scaled down versions of Scotch whisky pot stills that work?
I would think a bit to expensive.

I think the lights do a lot towards the presentation.

Loved perusing your top shelf, but audibly gasped with delight when I saw the lower shelf.

Didn't like Lagavulin 12 the first time I tried it, but last week found out that I like it even better than the 16.

I know exactly what you mean. Although I have not opened that one yet.

As an Islay drinker, I made a point to go out and try other types for various regions.
My first taste of Sherry finished types like macallan cask strength I didn't care for at all. That as all changed now.

Same for the Balvenie 15 YO single barrel. I found out after half a bottle that
I became very fond of the stuff.

I am trying to develop my taste to the point that I might dare to open a bottle of the TUN 1401 #3. Just don't think I'm worthy of it yet.

Sure wish you were closer to Alaska so we could get together for a tasting. I've got some Hakushu 10, Hakushu distillery only, Yoichi 10, Taketsuru 17, Yamazaki 12 and Miyagikyou 10 cask strength distillery only that are all very good that I could bring along.

Although I feel Macallan's is probably regarded a little higher by the public in general than its flavor might qualify it for, they still have my curiosity, as does the much touted TUN 1401 that I'd love to try.

Here is my bar setup...it came with the house. I am going to open a different thread later today to ask for help expanding the bar for whisky instead of hijacking this thread. Please watch for the new thread and help design my new bar!

Islay, I wish I could make a trip up to Alaska and bring a couple bottles with me to share.
I could use a freezer full of Salmon & halibut too.

Salmon and halibut - how about Dungeness, popcorn shrimp and smoked black cod!

Not as fancy as you guys, but got a rosewood sideboard with room for my spirits glassware on the top of 1 side and around 20 bottles on the bottom. Down to 10 at the mo as waiting for some releases (Ardbog, Balvenie tun 1401 uk and craftmans number 2). The rest are in a wardrobe upstairs.

I'm looking at the contents, particularly the Glencairn, Yoichi and Ardbeg.

The Glencairn is a cut crystal one from actual Glencairn Crystal company - can be found on www.thewhiskyexchange.com - not sure if they ship to the US tho. It's nice, very weighty and holds a good dram's worth.


....scared to open the Yoichi at the moment, it's one of the more expensive bottles I have, it's in there to tease me until I grow some balls.


I'd like a nicer display cabinet, but it's a step too far - my wife doesn't want to see them, as "I drink too much" apparently :D so out of sight, out of mind.

Suggestions that she get rid of the piano so I can have a large, open, display cabinet did not go down well.
