42 Year Old Ambassador Deluxe Scotch
 

Hello,
First timer here, I know nothing about scotch really , so I need some help. someone gave my father a 8 year old bottle of ambassador deluxe scotch 34 years ago putting it at 42 years old. He just recently found it again. It is unopened. Is it any good? Any help is appreciated.

first i am new in the whisky world so i could be wrong but from what i know.
it's not 42 years old it's still an 8 year old whiskey as it stops aging after being bottled
and it should still be good if kept right but the best way to find out is to pour a glass and if it looks and smells like whisky then give it a taste then you should know if it's good or not

"Scotch at its lightest" is a funny sales slogan to me. I guess it's meant as an introductory scotch whisky. 8 years is young for a scotch, usually they are 10+ years of aging.

The slogan dates back to the late 1960's when the USA went through a period of wanting light coloured and light flavoured blended whiskies [pre single malt sales]. The best examples of these are J&B, Dewars and Cutty Sark, all who lightened their blend in colour and flavour, Ambassador was in the same style of light whisky and coined the phrase "at it's lightest". It must have worked as it became the No 4 or 5 best selling blend back then.
