Golden Wedding Pure Rye Whiskey

I was wondering if anyone could give me some info on an unopened can of Golden Wedding Pure Rye Whiskey. I've not figured out how to post pictures. It's a oblong can with a key like an old spam can. It has a picture of the distillery and says distillers corporation ltd. montreal canada.

Golden Wedding Rye in Tin

HDWrench,

I can help you with this one, but will need a few photos of the Box (particularly of the
Front, Back, Top & Bottom).

What you probably have there is a late 1920's-Late 1930's 'tamper-proof' tin: These
were largely produced as a result of Bootleggers, who would refill used bottles and
then resell them as New....largely to beat out the tax-man, but also as a way to simply
sell their illicitly made whisky.

When you send a reply back, look at the very bottom of the page for a button marked
"Manage Attachments" - Click this and wait for the new window to open, from there you
can select & upload photos from your computer...Easy as 1-2-3 !!!

Cheers,

Excuse me for hijacking this thread.
I also have an unopened bottle of Golden Wedding rye whisky.
As far as I know, it is from the prohibition era.
Could you please advise me of the value-price of it?
I don't want to open the box, tell me what do you think.
Thanks in advance,
Giannis

Golden Wedding Rye

No highjacking involved...These threads are open to all ;-)

To answer your question about the value of your bottle, I'd have to first point
out that the value of a bottle is determined by several very important factors:

1) Known age of the bottle.
2) Condition & Fill-level of the contents.
3) Condition of the exterior labels & seal.

Unfortunately, in order to accurately determine any of these factors, the
outside paper wrapper would have to be carefully removed: Without knowing
the condition & exact age, this would be of much less value to a collector.

To give you an idea of value (un-revealed) try this link; here the exact same
sealed paper-wrapped bottle was sold for $60-USD:
http://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/...original-paper
***I remember this one well, as I was the only other bidder @ $50-USD.

From what I can tell you about this bottle, is that it is not the "US Prohibition"
version that most people might expect it to be...The Carriage scene indicates
this to be a Distillers Corporation Limited (Montreal, Canada) product, and is
most probably from the Mid-Late 1930's, and definitely prior to 1944.

If you can have it weighed, you could determine the fill-level of the contents:
But that would be about your only clue of condition, and a rough one at that!

Dear Walter thanks a lot for your reply.
I'll open the wrap carefully and post some more photos in this forum.
As its value its not really high, I wouldn't mind to open the wrap so all you can see its contents, labels and seals.
Until later then,
Giannis
