White Tavern Whiskey

Has anybody heard of White Tavern Whiskey? I can't find any info on it. I found about 15 bottles in the attic of my Grandma's store, they are from my uncle's bar and over 30 years old.

Othe than Jackie Gleason in "The Hustler" Ive never heard of it. I know we are in the "Single Malt" Section but I dont want to make assumptions.
Is it Scotch, Bourbon, Tennessee or Irish Whisk(e)y? Any othe identifiers such as blended or single grain? Does it have a place of manufacture and distiller/bottler?

Minnesota Fats (Jackie Gleason) calls for "White Tavern Whiskey" in the 1961 movie "The Hustler". The name wasn't of a real whiskey at the time - the inference was that the whiskey was a placebo - non-alcoholic. Maybe what you have found could be movie props - or perhaps a special labelling as a gag referencing the ersatz whiskey from the movie.

It could be that the whiskey was named after the one in the film, just like The Antiquary is named after Sir Walter Scott's book "The Antiquary"..

White Tavern Whiskey

I doubt the name was ficticious since Paul Newman called for a bottle of J T S Brown, which was a real brand, often referred to as John Tennis Shoes Brown, definitely a bottom shelf brand.

Put up or shut up

Sorry, I'm gonna call BS on this one since the thread instigator hasn't responded to any of the replies requesting more information and none of the forum members have ever heard of it outside of movieland.

If this is legit, please scan one of the labels or take a photo of one and post a link to it.

White Horse Whiskey

As a fan of The Hustler, I have tried for some time to research White Tavern Whiskey. I have concluded that it does not exist. In Walter Tevis' book, "The Hustler," Minnesota Fasts asks for White Horse Whiskey not White Tavern Whiskey. In the book, Fast Eddie asks for JTS Brown as he does in the movie. I suspect there was a financial reason that the name White Horse whiskey was not used in the movie. Perhaps Gleason did not want to be associated with a particular brand or perhaps they did not get permission to use the name. Or maybe White Tavern just sounds better.

It is real

I too have two bottles of WT with tax stamps. The label is different from this one, and the name of the distiller is White Tavern Distilling Co., Owensboro KY.

The name White Tavern was registered in 1956 by Heaven Hill.
