Old Boone/John P Dant Bourbon Whiskey

I recently came into possession of a 61 year old bottle of John P Dant-Old Boone Kentucky Strait Bourbon Whiskey, sour mash. It's from a five barrel batch distilled in 1951, aged 20 years & bottled in 1971 for The House of Glunz.

I read that the Dant distillery burned down in 1971 & am wondering exactly how how rare of a find is this?

This distillery was located in southern Jefferson County and closed in the 1970s - we have not heard it burned down. It appears you have an excellent find from a silent distillery, but....it's likely to be too woody and over aged : ( I'll see if I can gather more info. :)

Thanks, I appreciate it. I had read while researching the bottle that there was a boiler explosion & fire in 1971 which is why they shut down, could be wrong though.

There is a history of the Dant Distillery at bourbonenthusiast.com.
(I hope it's ok to post a link to other forums.)
