The Balvenie

Hi,

I have a bottle of The Balvenie in the cognac bottle with a stamp below the neck that reads Founder's Reserve, 12 yr old .

Can anyone give me a value on this? Comes in a red flat box with tissue wrapping.

Any info would be appreciated.

Dottie

Balvenie

Sorry, this should be under single malt scotch not whisky blends.

Hi there Dottie! Are you sure it's a 12 year and not a 10? Can you post a photo? I'm wondering if it might be an independent bottling.

Dottie - since you're in Michigan as am I - if its the one I'm thinking of its a Balvenie from atleast 15-20 years ago that was offered in the state and it was a 12yr old and is no longer offered.
I sold two on Ebay over two years ago and had no trouble getting $150 which is a bit on the low side. I think the state price was about $30-35 when Michigan carried them.
I did some additional checking and the one I'm referring to had the words 'Classic' on the label.
Long slender neck and the shape of the lower part of the bottle I think the Germans would describe as a 'bocksteuble'[forgive my attempts at the correct spelling].

We found out this bottle of Balvenie in question is one from the 1980s. It was the original founder’s reserve before Balvenie released the 10yr old.

Good job JoJo!
That is the 'Classic' bottling I was referring to. Hope the original poster checks back.:)

JoJo,

That's funny. When I used to work in a liquor store in the 80's I remember a Balvenie bottle just like this one. Wish now that I had bought it! Always liked Balvenie's whisky, the 15 year single cask is always a solid IMO.

505Gibbs - thanks and always good to have your input :D
Mattshank - wish I had a bottle of this myself. IMO, you can't go wrong with Balvenie
