Old Case Of Dewar And Sons Select Scotch

I have an unopened case of Dewars and sons scotch either pre-prohibition or just following. While I would like to determine the age of the product I am hesitant to open the case. I have pictures of the case but have not been able to figure out how to upload them to this site. Suggestions for a newbie would be greatly appreciated

Not sure if we have your bottles dated on the case alone, but we can give it a shot. Try uploading photos now - if you need help, let us know.

pictures of unopened case of scotch

Jojo - thanks for getting back to me. I was able to load some pictures and they are in an album under my profile. It's the only one there. If there is any way to get an age from this information it would be great.

Thanks for adding the photos to your album. I have forwarded to our contact to see if we can get additional info on what you have.

Jojo -just wondering if you had heard anything on this case of scotch. Do you think I need to open it in order to send pictures of the bottles to obtain an age ??

Jojo 11-15-2011 09:06 PM

I haven't heard anything yet - but I'll follow up.

opened the case

Jojo - I opened the case and have uploaded a couple of pictures of the bottles. Hope this helps in my quest to find out anything I can about this whiskey.

Hi there. Sorry to say we have never had a response on this one. Sometimes we do and sometimes we don't. At this point, please visit http://www.dewars.com/#/us/en/home - and go to Contact Us form. Keep us posted if you get a response. ;)

Hi Jojo, I reckon that the "around prohibition" date is about right for this case judging by the style of the label, contents and where the company was based, also the colour of the empty? bottle which was specific to one glass manufacturer [Alloa Glass] and not made after the late 30's.
If all the bottles are empty then it's most likely that it was shipped pre prohibition and the bottles intended for use as display items.

I hope all our members have a great Christmas and a "slightly cheerful" Hogmanay and even although the Scotch Whisky Industry promotes moderation I feel once a year is perfectly reasonable

Thanks

Jojo - thanks for the info. The bottles are not empty with 2 being essentially full 5 empty and the remainder between the top of the label and 2/3 down the label.

Would the copyright date of 1916 mean anything on the label other than it was printed then?

blenderm 01-07-2012 09:38 AM

Not really, that was usually when either the brand was registered or the "new" label design was registered
