Rare Malts question
 

I tried to make some other posts but didn't succeed, so I try again.

Hi I'm new to this forum. I'm really just looking for someone who can tell me how much my bottle of Whisky is worth. (Before I drink it) :-)

I have a Rare Malts Glenlochy 1969, 25, 6,2 %

Since the distillery no longer exists and in addition since you have a single malt produced from Glenlochy (most production went into blends), there should be some value here. Unfortunately Whisky.com does not offer valuations at this time and neither does Glenlochy's parent company - Diageo. However, I'll see if I can dig up some info for you. Also, if you're in the US - try contacting Park Avenue Liquors (212-685-2442) or the Brandy Library (212-226-5545) - both do valuations. If you're in Europe - try McTears.com or Bonhams.com Be sure to post your findings here ;)

Bottle number 964 was sold on whiskyauction in November 2008 for €2242 (Euro)! The other original bottling in the list also 1969 25 years, but 62.08 percent has been sold for €500-€700 (Euro). So for 0.12% alcohol, it is a good value! :)

WOW! Maybe I shouldn't drink it then :-)

Thank you for the research. I have got some input from others pointing me more towards the 500 Euro range, but that must be the 62,08% version. I've got some quick offers from people around £400-500.

Do you know if it becomes more valuable over the years, or does it somehow have a set timeframe for drinkability stored in the original bottle? I see other bottles around that is older, but are they drinkable? (maybe a stupid question?)
What I mean is, should it be more worth in ten years?

Steinar - yes, it could be more valuable in 10 years. When you have a bottle of Scotch from a closed distillery, it certainly is considered rare and definitely has more appeal! As to value, it's basically what someone or a collector is willing to pay. Of course you can go by or use as a guideline what other bottles like yours have sold for in the past. As for whether it's drinkable - yes, it should be fine. You may hear different opinions on this, but just keep it out of sunlight, avoid extremes of temps and store it upright (don't let the cork come in contact with the scotch). I have two bottles of irish whiskey
1 Midleton - very rare irish whiskey 1996 mster distiller barry crockett (no box)and also 1 bottle of ameson 12 year old irish whiskey reserve (in box) both unopened was wondering how I could get them priced
