Maker's Mark with ATF Label
My gradfather recently passed away and had quite a collection of old Jim Beam decanters and various bottles of bourbon. One is an unopened bottle of Maker's Mark with a Bureau of ATF label and the number 010602452. There isn't any other noticable markings that I can find that would help date the bottle. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry about that. Let's try this again.

Since production of Maker's Mark started in 1954, Loretto-Kentucky the Maker’s Mark label hasn’t change so much. The first bottle of Maker's Mark was bottled in 1958 and featured the brand's distinctive dipped red wax seal...
I have some bottles of M.M. and I think that your bottle is from the 90’s...but you will probably get more precise determination from JoJo |
Thanks Damir! Following up on this now :)

Thanks Damir. I believe that they stopped using tax labels in 1985 so I assume it's from before then. I have another bottle of Crown with a tax label from 1966 but that actually has the date printed on it. I was really hoping someone knew if the numbers on the label corresponded with a date but that doesn't seem to be the case. I doubt there's real value in this and I would prefer to drink it anyway. Just curious more than anything.

Hello Chris!
Whisky-Bourbon matures only in the barrel! Whisky is in its peak condition when bottled and does not mature or get better once in the bottle. It is generally believed to have a shelf life of between 10 and 15 years after which the colour and taste may begin to deteriorate, particularly if there has been any evaporation from the bottle. If you have bottle older than this, then I would recommend, if you do intend to try to drink the whisky, you nose the contents well on opening to check that it smells ok. |
We hear your bottle of Maker's Mark is thought to be the old standard US Gov. Stamp and could be as recent as the late 1980s.
