Black And White Scotch Whisky
 

I have an old bottle of "Black and White" special blend of Buchanan's choice Old Scotch Whisky with the number on the bottom of the bottle; NB125 N 23 UGB. Scotch Whiskey Distillers...Glasgow & London ..Glentauchers Distillery, Mulben, Speyside.The bottle is dark green with Black and White scotch Whisky engraved in the glass and has wire on the cap with a heavy white shrink label. There is a label at the neck which says"By appointment to her majesty the queen..." The back of the bottle also has a label with the two dogs sitting on a plinth. I wonder if anyone could help tell me how old it is and the value.

Dave, we can have your bottle of Black & White dated, but photos are a must - please post here on the Whisky.com Forum. Here are quick steps on how to do so:

To post photos, Please register first. Once done, then click on the New Thread button. In the body part of the thread - please list as much info as possible.

When you are ready to insert your photo, look for the paper clip icon (to the right of the smiley face). Click on it - a new window will open which gives you the option to browse your computer for your photo.

Once that's done, Upload and then close that window. If your photo does not attach, that means it's too big, so re-size and try again.

Once you're set and have closed out of that window, you'll be back to the main page with your question. Click on the paper clip icon again and it might say Insert Attachments" or it may just show numbers - go ahead and either click on Insert Attachments or just click on the numbers and it will insert into your message. You won't actually see the photo until you either preview it (look to bottom of the body of your thread, below the icons and you'll see a button to either Submit New Thread or to Preview Post.

Once you click on either of these, you will see your photos. Please give it a try and let me know how it goes.

Thanks for posting! We will see if we can have your bottle of Black & White dated...just an FYI - because it's so close to Christmas, there may be a delay in the response from Scotland.

Dave, we found out from Black & White's parent company (archive dept) that from looking at the images of your bottle, it's been dated c1960, meaning that it would have been produced sometime between 1955 and 1965. Their current Queen granted a Royal Warrant to Buchanan’s in 1955, and this is demonstrated on the bottle by the statement ‘By Appointment, Her Majesty the Queen’. Your bottle also features a ‘kork’n’seal’ closure featuring a metal cap and a small metal lever covered in foil, this style of closure was discontinued in the later 1960s. The labelling on bottles of Black & White was redesigned again in 1965, so your bottle will definitely not have been produced after this time.
