Value of Usquaebach
I have a stone jug bottle of Usquaebach 40%, 710ml, Sealed in Bond Glasgow.
Blended and Bottled by Douglas Laing and Co Ltd Glasgow, Scotland. Imported by Twelve Stone Flagons Ltd, Castle Shannon Pennsylvania. I cannot find any info on this bottle or very much even on the brand. Is it any good? It's never been opened and has been handed down from two deaths already. I'm not a big scotch drinker myself, but if its good high end or special stuff, I'll keep it for myself and some of my close friends. I don't want to make a mistake and let someone who won't appreciate it, come and drink it just, to get pissed. Bill |
I would drink it. It has not been made in a long time. I have done some research and heard that this blend is in production and will be available in the United States sometime this spring. It is considered a high end blend.
Where are you located? |
In Winnipeg, Canada.
Good for those long cold winters I guess. |
Rethinking keeping the scotch, and want to possibly sell it in North America. Who would know how much I could sell it for. Are ther auctions in North America, like the ones in Europe?

When this blend was available in Mich.[we have fairly high liquor taxes] it retailed for about $60! It hasn't been available for, and I'm guessing a bit, over 15 years.
I think a bottle like you described went on Ebay about 4 months ago for about $75. |
Usquaebach
William,
I obtained a bottle only once in Paisley, Ontario, at the LCBO (20 years ago) when a particularly discerning Scotch expert was manager of that location. The only other bottle I have ever seen was brought back from South Africa by a family friend, who was willing to share it. I have been looking in Ontario for this product ever since, but no success. There is a distributor in the US, you can readily locate them by means of an internet search using the name of the Scotch. This Scotch, in my opinion, is worth keeping, and enjoying with other appreciative guests. There is only one way to enjoy it, in a proper Scotch tasting glass, with just a dribble of distilled water (never tap water) added to release the locked up essence of the spirit. In Scotland, the ideal is to carry a bottle and glasses to the burn or water source used in the production of the particular Scotch, and add just a wee splash of the fresh burn water to the glass of Scotch. Some claim it is better to add NO water, but try it both ways, you will see some advantage in the addition. If you take the time to progress through the tasting properly, you will create an experience that you, and your fellow connoisseurs, will really enjoy of an evening. "May ye ne'er want a frien', or a dram to gi'e him!" Cheers! Bob o' the weekday! |
