How Much is My Whisky Worth??
Hello.
I was given a bottle of whisky as a present, I think its worth a lot but am not an expert. Its a J&A Mitchell's Campbeltown Scotch Whisky. Its a limited edition made for the Tiree Wave Classic (one of the worlds biggest windsurf events), with only 150 bottles made. Its a 2008 so I guess it needs time to mature. How long until its at its peak? and what would it be worth then and now?? Thanks a lot. Big Salty |
Big Salty - I will see what I can find out regarding value - in the meantime, can you send me photos? Send them to Joanne (at) CCIN.com and please be sure to put Whisky.com in the subject line. As for 'maturing' - whisky does not mature once bottled. ; )

How Much is My Whisky Worth??
Quote:
I hate to disappoint you but J & A Mitchell's Campbeltown Scotch Whisky is a very common Cadenhead bottling which is a VATTED MALT ( New Term; BLENDED MALT ). The only difference in your bottle and the regular bottling is that the TIREE WAVE CLASSIC paper label is limited to 150, not the bottling. This bottle has a NO AGE STATEMENT label as does the regular label bottling. Cadenhead bottles a CAMPBELTOWN CLASSIC MALT ( which is the one you have ), CADENHEAD CLASSIC HIGHLAND, CADENHEAD CLASSIC ISLAY, and CADENHEAD CLASSIC LOWLAND. Your bottle is worth about $38.00 and contains Campbeltown malts; among them SPRINGBANK ( which is owned by J & A Mitchell ) and Glen Scotia. It could possibly contain some Longrow, Hazelburn and Kilkerran which are also Campbeltown malts owned by J & A Mitchell as well. The malts used for bottling are probably 3 to 8 years old if Kilkerran and Hazelburn are included in the recipe. If Kilkerran and Hazelburn are not in the recipe, then the malts used in the bottling recipe are probably 6 to 8 years old. Once Scotch whisky has been bottled, aging stops. Hope this helps. |
The Antiquary
2 Attachment(s)
Hi - I've found this bottle of whisky and wondered if anyone can tell me if it's worth anything. There's no barcode on it or details about what year it is except The Antiquary De Luxe Old Scotch Whisky. It has no barcode and it doesn't look like it ever did.......a genuine mystery!! Attachment 629
Attachment 630 Thanks in advance for any help! |
re: The Antiquary
Not much, probably around 40$. Best open it up and enjoy!

The packaging is the same packaging that has been used for decades. I must agree with Mr. P Froes in his comment above, "Best open it up and enjoy!" Current retail price of your bottle ( I found on-line ) is $24.25 |
Wondering what the value might be.
I have in my possession a bottle of Bell's Royal Reserve, 20 yo, blended scotch whiskey. It is still in the original box, with the cardboard sleeve and the bottle is unopened and unmolested in any way. I have researched enough to find that it was bottled before Arthur Bell & Sons was bought out by Guiness in '85 and was imported by Heublein Inc. so it is pre 1982, but beyond that I don't know exactly when it was bottled. My best guess is sometime in the '60s given the bottle shape and label. Please help me make some cash.

Bell's Royal Reserve, 20 yo, blended scotch whiskey
First two google results...
£125.00 at Whisky Exchange or $137.87 at another online store... Is it just me or are there an awful lot of blends being discussed in the single malt section? |

Talisker 18s
I know it's a stupid question, but I'm sure if it's stupid because the answer is 'no' or because the answer is 'yes.' But are Talisker 18s worth hanging on to at this point?

Talisker 18s

I found 20 bottles of Talisker 18YOs auctioned off since 2007. The hammer price ranged from $52 to $88 per bottle. The 18YO OB is a very common bottling. You may be looking for more data to make your decision, but I would just crack the bottle and enjoy as I believe it will be a lot of years before one sees this bottling appreciate considerably. The ones to hang onto are the 20-Year-Old OB bottlings ( which are hard to find ). They were bottled at 58.8% ABV, 62% ABV, and 62.2% ABV. They were offered for sale at the distillery gift shop. So to keep your 18YO is a crap shoot at this point. By the way, there is NO SUCH thing as a stupid question. |

I have a bottle of Knockando extra old reserve (1969). 750ml. Strange thing is it has Japanese writing on the back and label and also notes "imported by Nikka IDV ltd". As a 40 year old Scotch, is this of the quality I should hang on to for an incredibly special occasion or open and enjoy now?

Special Edition Glenfiddich
Hello there, I found this forum browsing the web and post as a guest:
I have a bottle of a special Glenfiddich Malt that was bottled on occasion of the wedding of the Prince of Wales (Charles and Lady Di). It was of a limited edition and has handwritten number 500 on the label. It comes in a black wooden box with red velvet inside. Is this worth anything and how would I offer it for sale? |
Special Edition (Glenfiddich)
Never mind. It is a Glenlivet, not a Glenfiddich and I found several bottles for sale on the Internet, including ebay. Asking price is anywhere between $400 and $550. But it doesn't seem to be in demand. Have not seen anybody buying it. I may keep it.

Hi, the bottle is an older design. It has been redesigned twice since the one shown above. It would be from when United Distillers (now called Diageo) owned the brand. The Antiquary is now owned by Tomatin and made to the same "recipe" using Tomatin Malt. Unfortunatly, the value would not be high. |
I have a bottle with no name it has a hand print on it all 5 finger tips can you help determine this bottle thanks

I have a bottle of irish whiskey "O'Sullivans distillery Kilmallock" when it was bottled it was 30 years old which would make it a 1940 vintage (it has been in the family since 1970) , ive been told it could be worth a serious amount of money .Anyone care to make an educated guess how much ?

Glenfarclas, McPhails
Hi guys! Greetings from the Philippines.
I saw a couple of bottles from my dad's collection that are gathering dust. Unfortunately, he is no longer alive to drink them. So, I'm just wondering how much they are worth and if I should serve it to his friends in his coming Death Anniversary. Here they are: Glenfarclas 30 YO http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/...las30Years.jpg Glenfarclas 25 YO http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/...las25Years.jpg McPhails 25YO http://i1028.photobucket.com/albums/...ils25Years.jpg Sorry for the large files. I don't know how to resize them. |
Your dad has great taste, and honoring him by drinking these gems will be a fantastic honor.
The Glenfarclas 25 sells in the New York for $150-175, the 30 (though not currently available) in the $250-300 range. The G&M bottling probably in the $200 range. I can probably find out whose spirit is in this bottling if you're so inclined? But all you really need to know is that G&M is first class from cask to mouth. If you decide to keep them for another day, as my wife is a Filipina, I'll be happy to share them with you when we visit next:) |
whats this worth?
i have a 20 year old st magdalenes single malt and was wondering what its worth all i know from the labelling and enclosed letter was that it was a limited edition of 396 bottles produced to commemorate 100 years of engineering at United Distillers and Vintners @ Waterloo Street in Glasgow in 1998/99. my other friend who has a bottle says it is known as St Magdalenes Waterloo Street, i was just wondering the value and best way to sell if worth it.thanks in advance

Hello,
I came across your whisky.com website today and was curious if you could help me out with 2 bottles of single malt scotch that I've had for about 8 years now. They are 2 bottles of Signatory Vintage Glenlivet Rare Reserve 28 year old scotch that were bottled by signatory vintage in 2003. They came from cask #5729, they were distilled on 3-26-1975, and I have bottles #156 and #157 out of #244 that were bottled. They are 109 US Proof, 750ml bottles. They come with a signed certificate from an A.W. Symington(managing director of Signatory Vintage) saying they were bottled in his presence. I will attach pictures of the bottles for you to see, but I was wondering if you could tell me anything about the value of them. If you need a closer picture of the bottle, just ask. Thanks for any help you can provide. I sent an email to Joanne with the pictures b/c I cannot figure out how to post pictures on this website. Lou |
Okay, so I have a dilemma.
Recently in the UK, The Benevolent charity sold 500 bottles of Glenfiddich single cask whisky, called The Foundation Reserve. Details can be found here: http://www.scotchmaltwhisky.co.uk/gl...ionreserve.htmhttp://i206.photobucket.com/albums/b...ionreserve.jpg This is an incredibly rare whisky, and comes complete with hand numbered certificates of authenticity, and I managed to buy 3 bottles of it. I have opened one (and it is truly a fabulous whisky), bottle 2 was for a good friend, and I have bottle 3 unopened in my cupboard. These have been fetching £330 or so in the UK, where whisky is a lot more readily available than in the USA, and as I am in holiday in the States in a couple of weeks, I am tempted to see what it would fetch on ebay.com. Anybody have any idea what they think this could fetch in the US? |

Found Treasure!
We were going through a old storage cellar and found some old bottle of whiskey and liqueurs. I know they must have been picked up when my grandfather was working. In and around the 1940-1960 about he did a lot of travel for work and picked them up along the way. I don’t know if you could help or even point me in the right direction of someone that could. They are ( Crème De Banana Blots, Manischewitz Loganberry, Specialty Cointreau, Chartreuse Liqueur Fabriquee, Seagram’s V.O., Virginia Gentleman Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Bells 12 Royal Vat, Casa Fondata Nel Stock Maraschino.) All unopened. Thanks.

Hi there! While at times we're able to get a value range, for the most part, Whisky.com does not offer valuations at this time. Try one of these companies: mctears.com or bonhams.com - both specialize in valuations. However, please keep in mind that unless you have a limited release, something from a distillery no longer in operation - or pre-prohibtion - you'll not likely to fetch much value.

Bottle Dating
A lot of times Guests & even New Members have a difficult time finding out how to
upload pictures... Having my direct email address handy alleviates that for you! (I specialize in pre-1960's vintages of hard alcohol: Whisky, Rum, Etc) If you want a bottle dated or appraised for valuation, I will need to have some clear photos in order to know what I am looking at: These photos are critical, both for the dating information, and especially the valuation portion as “Condition is Everything “. Dating-critical information is often found in these places on your bottles: 1) The Cap style 2) The Tax Stamps (Federal on top, and State on side - If available) 3) The Shoulder-label (Between the neck & body of the bottle) 4) The Front-label (Main label on the front of the bottle) 5) The Back-label 6) The Bottom of the bottle also often has useful information I can usually date most bottles within 48-72 hours. Cheers, Walter C Hurst wchurst@hotmail.com |
