Age for Dewar's White Label 1 Gallon Bottle?
Hello,
I have an old gallon Dewar's White Label bottle and I would like to know how old it is. The bottle is empty, so I can see these numbers printed on the back of the label: "75 259". I was hoping that those figures would help, but is the bottle from '75 or February '59? Can you help with this one? Thanks in advance. |
Are these numbers on the back of the front label - or on the back label itself? Can you post a photo of the front label?

The numbers are on the back of the front label. The back label is missing.
Here are some images, hope these help. http://picpaste.com/Valokuva0076-PGIGLFJJ.jpg http://picpaste.com/Valokuva0077-IK9WaJHh.jpg http://picpaste.com/Valokuva0078-YPKnv56j.jpg |
Thanks for the photos. Some later bottles of Dewar's include a date on the reverse side of the label - this appears to be what you have. A reference on the reverse side of the label such as ‘43-66’ means that the whisky was bottled in 1943. My guess then is that your bottle then is dated to be from 1975. To be sure, what kind of closure is on this bottle? A modern screw cap by chance?

Thank you for your help! Here is a picture of the metal cap.

This cap is screws on, right? If so, these modern type screw caps were introduced during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Initially of course, corks were used and then in 1927, Dewar's started using a metal spring cap (see attached). I'll double check on this.
