I can't help with your question but was wondering what the going
rate is for a bottle of JWDB in the airports where it is available? |
A sharp knife ??
I'll have to look at one when I'm by the liquer store but I know with some others I cut a ring just below the cap where it meets the top of the neck . |

Open Johnnie Walker Double Black
Anyone figure out how to open it? After unscrewing the cap, there is a signifcant plastic cap, at the top if it theres an enclosed ball as well. What do you need to do to open the bottle? How much of the plastic eventually comes off and how to do you get into it!?

Thanks for advice - though i'd broken something. What a horrid plastic thingie - stops all those nice sploshing noises and alsao demands patience pouring... No doubt they'll tell us the Whisky will taste all the better for this...

Yep. Just turn it upside down then give it a knock or 2.

Fixed the problem (expletives deleted)
My hubby took a mall metal-cutting saw to the top of the bottle, then dug out the ball & then made the hole big enough to properly pour. You can only imagine his comments about the new design!

Everyone had better get used to this kind of a seal as it's a "Non Refillable fitment" that doesn't allow the bottle to be refilled with either a cheaper whisky or even a fake one. These types of seals, and there are a number of different types, have been used for at least 60 years but normally in the Asia Pacific area and in countries where there have been problems but they're becoming much more common..
As Poshest Man said tap the base and once it's been used there's no problems |
JWDB Disaster
What the hell were Johnnie Walker thinking about when they stuck the stupid thingy on the top of the bottle.
I will never ever buy another bottle from any company that allows such stupidity to get in the way of a product like this. I have yet to taste to damn Scotch. I have been drinking fine Scotch for years and I have never ever had such trouble having a drink. Don't the idiots at Johnnie Walker test the thing before going to production? And just in case... It is a stupid idea to hang the bottle upside down and giving it a tap or two to get the flow going. That is a recipe for disaster. Never ever again. thumbs down JWDB |

pouring johnny walker double black
Thanks for all of the posts! Because of you guys we figured out how to pour the whisky out of the bottle. How simple. Who knew you just needed to turn the bottle totally upside down! Now, the question is why do we need to do it that way?

Good Stuff
A friend of mine brought this whiskey along to share on a golf trip and wow, nice stuff! Easy on the throat.
Thanks for the posts on the pourer. FYI cost at the Buffalo Queenston / Lewison Bridge duty free crossing into Canada was $42 for 1 litre. Sercole |
omg thanks to this thread!!! I was like wtf when I opened it and thought I broke the cap or something....oh gosh.....

Solution - this blog has been running for two years. When will Johhnie Walker's PR people actually take notice and either give sensible instructions or get the message that customers don't like the new caps and revert to something more user-friendly?

Put the bottle upside down
|
We recently had a bit of fun trying to see how easily we could pour it out - followed by seeing if you could pour it back in. Solution found:
When pouring it back in to the bottle, you will see bubbles pushing the marble out of the way, and then watch as the liquid runs down one corner of the bottle - it will not fall straight down the middle. If you hold that corner upwards when pouring, it should pour slowly at first, then smoothly from then. |
