What's your favorite between these two single malts?
 

What's your favorite and why between Balvenie 12 year old Double Wood and Dalwhinnie 15 year old? And why?
BTW, sorry for the duplicate posting. I posted this yesterday, it advised that I had timed out when I hit submit, I reposted, hit submit and it took and posted, but I noticed yesterday that the post had disappeared?

Very strange, as I had replied and was confused as I couldn't find the reply!

Anyway, as I said the first time around, it has to be the Balvenie for me. The Dalwhinnie is nice, but the Balvenie has much more complexity to it, and some delicious honey and vanilla overtones. I bought a bottle of Dalwhinnie once, but have bought several bottles of the Doublewood, and I am generally an Island/Islay man.

Thanks for the timely response but may I make a suggestion that if you haven't done so already, you might want to consider checking in with JoJo regarding the hot-link to another site in your signature. Most sites consider any hot-link to another site SPAM and do not allow it. I belong to about 25 various sites for high performance cars, firearms, speciality vehicles, etc., etc., and unless you get administration's direct acknowledgement none of them allow hot-linking to another site. The Balvenie for me. Dalwhinie is far too light for me - almost more like a lowland. Most intrest and complexity from The Balvenie.

This is my exact thought as well. The Dalwhinnie is just so delicate and subtle that I find it boring. I need a bit more "oomph" in my whisky.

In fact, I find the Doublewood to be on the very low end of my range of "good" whiskies. It and the Macallan 12yr are "almost" too subtle for my tastes.

For my money, if I wanted a double-casked Speyside/Highland whisky, I would go with the 16yr Aberlour Double Cask. It is fantastic, and only a couple dollars more than the Balvenie 12yr Doublewood. I think I have a review posted of it on this forum.

Yes, I thought that I recognized your name also. We sort of travel in the same and / or similar circles.

I've had bottles of both, and they were both quite good. The Balvenie has the classic Balvenie flavor, with some enhancement from the second racking. I would disagree that Dalwhinnie lacks complexity, I like it far more than Macallan 12, but the overall taste is light, subtle smoke, etc. It would benefit from a higher alcohol content as well IMHO.
Both are good, but I don't plan to buy another bottle of either.
