Need reccomendation for some good whisky

Hello,

I know nothing about whisky but I have a good friend who loves it and wanted to buy him a bottle as a gift, can anyone suggest some good one's...he drinks Chivas if that helps, what might relatively be close but better in taste?

thanks!

blend or single malt?

guess the question now is - do you think he would like another blended scotch or try a single malt? how does he drink his chivas? i would be hesitant to suggest another blend because it seems like he already has a favorite (chivas) so, why not try a single malt? here are some of my favorites which won't break the bank - highland park 12yo, aberlour 12yo. if you want to spend a bit more, you can never go wrong with balvenie and macallan.

Popular Scotch whisky blends....

If you go the route of a single malt, some of the most popular ones include Glenfiddich and Glenlivet. If you want to stick with blends, know these are amoung the most popular ones - Famous Grouse, Teacher's, J&B Rare and Johnnie Walker Black, Blue or Gold - also, Dewar's (most popular in the USA).
