White Horse Cellar Whisky

I have a question for anyone out there who may know about Whisky. My father in law recently gave me an bottle of White Horse Cellar Whisky that looks really old. Is there any way to tell the age of this unopened bottle?

At one time they had the date of bottling on the label.

I've recently 'acquired' a couple of bottles dated 1954 and 1960 - and another that has LC where the date is on the others.

Are they likely to be drinkable? (not by me - I have to confess to not being able to stand the stuff) Or even of collectable value?

They are unopened though probably not sotored in ideal conditions

Jojo 11-04-2008 02:30 PM

We can always obtain information about your bottle, but we always need photos. You can email them directly to me - Joanne (at) CCIN.com - and be sure to put WHISKY.com in the subject line. Thanks!

Many thanks Jojo - unfortunately I do not have a digital camera

From elsewhere I have gleaned that they are likely to be drinkable but unless of interest to a collector of labels of no special value.

Jojo 11-04-2008 10:33 PM

Yes, that many times is the case regarding value. Do you have any idea of how the bottles have been stored all these years?

Upright in a cupboard in a normally unheated room as far as I know. In the UK so real extremes of temperature unlikely

The bottle with the letters 'LC' instead of the date is from the mid-late 1960s.

Regarding the value of your bottle, here are a couple of suggestions, you can contact Andrew Bell at McTear's - he should be able to provide you with a valuation for a fee and advise you on the market and collectors:

McTear’s, Meiklewood Gate, 31 Meiklewood Road, Glasgow, G51 4EU, Scotland
+44 (0)141 810 2884
Andrew (at) bell@mctears.co.uk

Another option is contact Martin Green at Bonham's. Email: martingreen (at) @bonhams.com - A small fee may be required.

Whisky is at its peak drinking condition when bottled and does not mature or get better once in the bottle. Some suggest that the whisky is generally believed to have a shelf life of between 10 and 15 years after which the color and taste *may* begin to deteriorate significantly and others suggest the spirit should be perfectly fine - even after many years. As your bottle is considerably older than this then I would recommend that, if you intend to try to drink the whisky, you smell the contents well on opening to check that it is ok.

As always, we need CLEAR pictures! Also, please know Whisky.com does not provide valuations. You'll need to contact McTears.com or Bonhams.com - just a couple of suggestions of companies that will provide valuations.

White Horse age

Hi,
I have a small bottle that tells a story of the older days, contains 1 2/3 ounces and has Feb 1754 written on the label (following the old story), however I am not sure this is the date of the contents. There is the letters A B on the base, and the number 5 on the back. Is there any way of finding the date?

Hi there.

I'm really trying to track down the date/origins of a bottle of White Horse Cellar whisky. It's from one of the oldest bars in South Africa and nobody knows just how old it is.
I have pics/info to send, if someone could help me out.

Thanks so much.
Niall.

Depends on the date of your bottles. Can you post photos of one? We can have it dated. If what you have is pre-prohibition, could have some value, but you would need to contact www.bonhams.com or www.mctears.com - both companies specialize in valuations.

whisky stones which will never dilute your whisky!!!

Dear all,

Hope you all have a great day first;)

We are a manufacturer for whisky stones which will match very well with your whisky. They are made of soapstone, which is regarded as safe by FDA and LFGB, soapstone is naturally dense, it has fantastic thermal mass to absorb heat, will give instant cooling for juice, milk or wine. It is chemical insert, will not react with water, alcohols or mild acids, easy to use, just clean it and put them into freezer for 3--4 hours, then, you can use them for cooling anytime, reusable. There are FDA and LFGB report on the attachments.

If you are interested in the whisky stones, please do feel free to contact me:

Year of the Whisky

i like to know the year of a White Horse's bottle, which is the email where i can send the photo of the label?? thanks so much!

Unregistered 04-21-2012 08:00 AM

how old is it

my grandmother recently brought me a nice bottle of "old blend scotch whysky of the white hose cellar". it's "aged in woods" an has the serial "ES No. 373835".
On the top of the front label it also says "by appointment to her majesty th queen".

on the bottle neck it's kind of sealed. it has two strips which say "united kingdom" and they are fixed with a label which has the "white horse" square in the middle and tells us "to open pull upwards"

on the back it has two labels. a red one with "guarantee ..." and one which says
"Ausländisches Ezeugnis, 43%
Allein - Einfuhr für Deutschland
Wempa Weltmarken Import Gmbh
Wiesbaden Schirstein"
Which means that its an import bottle for germany, which makes sense cause i'm livin there.

Dear Jojo,
could you please tell me how old it maybe is an gimme advice so i can try to check the valuation of the bottle before i open it?

Could be worth anything from $45-$400/bottle....alot depends on the age, condition of the labels, and evaporation.

If you need help...let me know!
