Royal Northern Cream Whisky
 

Greetings from New Hampshire. I apologize for having my first message be an inquiry. Today a friend gave me a bottle of unopened Royal Northern Cream Whisky. Being somewhat familiar with modern Scotch he was seeking an opinion. I almost opened it for a taste, but something said to inquire further of people with much greater knowledge than myself. The bottle appears to be hand blown with a two mold. The label had fallen off and was taped onto the bottle. The label has a printing on the reverse side. The bottom is embossed with K.B.L. with a small D after the L. I'll include pictures of the front and rear of the label and one of the cap.

I'll come back to you on a prosective age as I feel you were correct not opening the bottle. Can you tell me is it has a stopper cork [one with top] or is it a plug cork [like a wine bottle] as that will also help me to date it

It feels like a stopper cork.

Hi Frezo, from the photo it looked as if it could be a plug cork. As it feels like a stopper that dates it to after 1927 and from the style of the label and colour it looks to be pre-war and the 2 piece mould has been used for the past 110 years or so. From this I reckon it's from around 1930 to 38 and an early bottle.

Thank you for the analysis. We don't quite know what to do with it. My friend that found this in his Grandmother's basement also has a second identical bottle. We understand we can't sell it without a license. After the hassle it would probably be more fun to simply taste one. We're considering doing a tasting on Youtube where we may be able to generate interest in the second bottle from people looking to spend too much money for something different. That could make it worthwhile to sell through a third party. Mostly I just think it would be fun. There is also a great deal of sediment at least in my bottle. When it settles the liquid is not cloudy. Do you think this is normal?

The sediment's no problem it's one of two things, first it may be cork dust so be very careful when you open the bottle as the cork may crumble, The other may depend on whether the bottles been stored in a cooler environment, like a basement, and over the years the cold may have gererated a haze which could become a deposit on the bottom of the bottle, treat it like a bottle of wine, don't shake it and decant carefully
