Old Bottle of Johnnie Walker

5 Attachment(s)
I am hoping you can help me identify a very old bottle of Johnnie Walker whiskey. I suspect it is White Label 'OLD HIGHLAND WHISKEY' but I am not sure::confused:

The bottle and contents are intact.
It was found at the back of a cupboard of a recently deceased relative
Pictures attached

Can you tell me:
  1. What this is?
  2. Is it collectable?
  3. Is it rare?
  4. Is it valuable?
  5. Is it drinkable?
  6. Will it have improved with age?

Note: The bottle is made from glass that is pitted and contains air bubbles. it appears very old.

Thank you and Regards

John Walker Old Highland Whisky

I believe the name "Old Highland Whisky" was changed in 1909 when their now famous distinctive colored labels were introduced (Johnnie Walker Red Label and Johnnie Walker Black Label). Prior to 1909 the three main brands from John Walker were: Old Highland Whisky, Special Old Highland and Extra Special Old Highland. I'll reach out to our contact in the archive department for Johnnie Walker to see what we can find out. BTW, rather nice find, I'd say! :D

Thank you for taking the time to help me.

I notice that the bottom label lists various Exhibition Awards and the last one is CHRISTCHURCH 1907 and therefore it can't be pre 1907 if the label was put on when it was bottled. I suspect it must have been bottled in approximately 1908 (if they changed to Red/ Black labels in 1909).
  • The bottom of the bottles (see new image) shows the words WALKERS KILMANOCK WHISKEY 1864
  • The glass is very interesting as it contains flaws - air bubbles

I am very grateful for your help and look forward to hearing about anything else you find out :)

Best Regards
Richard

1914 - 1918 Johnnie Walker White Label

This is what we found out: "This looks like a World War One period bottle of JOHNNIE WALKER WHITE LABEL which was discontinued shortly after this date. From 1906 Walker's produced three main brands OLD HIGHLAND WHISKY, SPECIAL OLD HIGHLAND WHISKY and EXTRA SPECIAL OLD HIGHLAND WHISKY and because they had white, red and black coloured labels respectively, they became known as WHITE LABEL, RED LABEL and BLACK LABEL." :D

Bubbles in the glass bottle of Johnnie Walker

Forget to mention - all the impurities in the glass are because they were handblown at that time.

Old Bottle of Johnnie Walker

bought a 4pk last night...just not the same as getting from the keg. I poured it down the sink and opened a bottle of Samuel Smiths Imperial Stout. Sam Smiths is far less bitter than bottled Old Ras.
Now I need to find out where I can get a keg of Old Ras...

I have a old bottle of Old Highland Whisky.... I would like to know what it is worth. Do mail me on chrisharris85@gmail.com for the pics of the bottle.

Very rare whisky bottle

This is a very very rare whisky bottle. Johnnie Walker discontinued to produce white label in 1911. White label was a 5-year old whisky.

So, I think this bottle is very expensive nowadays. Don't sell this bottle by less than € 20,000.

Johnnie walker old highland whiskey?

1 Attachment(s)
Hi
This thread makes some great reading. I am in a similar situation, however do have a little more information. I have a very old bottle, still with a "wee dram" remaining of johnnie walker old highland whiskey. The bottle came to be in my possession by my grandad who was a landlord of several public houses throughout his life (circa 1905 - 1978 RIP). I am a little confused as the label looks more of a bronze / gold colour ( possibly age) than white. Can anyone help or let me into further info?
Thx

fransodk 05-15-2013 02:49 AM

Hi - yes this is also an old Highland Whisky bottle (white label). It has indeed discoloured slightly over time - originally it would have been white. This bottle is from approximately 1910-1920.

Becks76 05-15-2013 12:30 PM

Fransodk, thats some help thanks :-)
