I love Ice...
Once again, ice is KING!
I'm sitting here sipping some Glenfarclas 10yr, and enjoying it straight, but knowing I've had it better. I was sitting here thinking, "I like this, but it isn't as good as I remember." So it dawns on me, ICE! I drop a couple shavings of ice into my glass, and oila! FANTASTIC... While I enjoy straight whisky, some whiskies just come alive with a touch of water or ice. |
I prefer 2-3 drops of water...thats it. No ice for me...but I like to start with nothing...then move to water for opening things up a bit.

I agree that ice has it's place in the taste enhancing methodologies.
I like ice with certain whiskies, water with most and with some I try different things. Like with JW green I've found that a few drops of White Horse really brings out the earthy elements while slightly easing the spicy ones- It's like you explained-finding the right way to bring out what you like in a whisky can turn a great experience into a ridiculously fantastic one! Viola! |
I love my Laphroaig 30 with 2 drops of water...YUM!!! I had that and some Ardbeg ANB tonight....

I usually have ice with mine but I do sometimes just add a bit of spring water .
