Suntory Finest Old Liqueur

2 Attachment(s)
Hello,
I have inherited an old Bottle of Suntory Japanese Whisky from my father and I am trying to find it's value for the purpose of selling it. From What I have found online it is probably from the 70's but I can't be sure. I have seen some pictures of older bottles with slightly different labels. if anyone could help, or if anyone is interested, please let me know and we can exchange more information. here are a couple of pictures, sorry I had to use my cellphone to take them but they aren't too bad...By the way this bottle is unopened but shows some signs of evaporation, not a lot but some. Anyhow here it is...

I'll look into this and see what I can find out. In the meantime, of course if anyone has an idea of value on this....chime in please!

Suntory Old

Not sure what you're seeing there RE: "Jojo is not for sale", but I did find this amusing nevertheless!

OK, so while I'm sad to say that you still have to keep your day job since the Suntory bottle you have in your possession isn't worth as much as you would probably would have liked. This is what we found out for you: The whisky is “Suntory Old” which used to be the most selling whisky in the world. 12,400,000 cases were sold in 1980. Though the sales volume decreased now, most of Japanese know the brand and call it Daruma which means Potbelly or Snowman. The retail price is about $20.

Thanks for your help!

Believe it or not I kind of thought it was going to be around 20 bucks. Even though it's 30 years old that doesn't matter since it's not in a cask and I know once it's bottled that's it for the aging process. I know that particular brand is a top seller world wide. Those kooky Japanese are actually expert copycats. I know the formula is based on Scotch at least. Interesting stuff to find out though.Thank you again for your help I really appreciate it. :D

hmmmm

I wonder what kind of response I would get if i put it up on Craigslist Tokyo for sale...maybe some filthy rich Japanese businessman will pay a fortune for it like the kooks who buy pieces of toast with the image of the Virgin Mary on them for millions of dollars..LOL:p

Jojo 03-30-2010 05:43 PM

Ha! Give it a shot and let us know if you stumble upon millions! :D

Craigslist

I had a post up for about a day and it got flagged and removed by the moderators..I didn't think about it before hand they don't allow sales of alcohol on Craigslist...:(

Jojo 04-03-2010 01:44 PM

Hmmmm...how about ebay? I *think* you might be able to list it on there if it's considered a 'collectible'. Regardless, check them out. Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

blenderm 04-03-2010 04:38 PM

There is an eBay Japan but it's in Kanjii script not english but there are a couple of auction sites there in english you might try

Jojo 04-04-2010 03:28 PM

Thanks blenderm! Do you have the name of the auction sites in Japan? Cheers...or rather, "Kompai"! :D

Hi JoJo, I just Googled it and came up with a couple of sites but I doubt that it would sell for more than a few dollars. I'd suggest that Draketungsten has a nice evening having a few drams.
By the way in those days all Japanese blends had to contain a percentage of Scotch Malt Whisky if it was sold outside Japan. At the time I believe this was for "quality" reasons.

Thank you for the info blenderm - and by the way I agree 100% when you say, "I'd suggest that Draketungsten has a nice evening having a few drams." Draketungsten, if you this is what you decide to do - enjoy!
