Good Starter Bottle

I really want to get into single malts. As of now the only whiskeys I've had are bourbons, and blended scotches. I've done a lot of research about all the different types of scotch from different regions. But I need a suggestion for a good starter bottle that won't break the bank. I've had the glenfiddich and glenlivit that you can buy in any liquor store. I don't want that, I want a scotch drinkers old stand by that I can start my single malt journey on. By cheap I mean I would really like the bottle to be under $50. Please anyone throw suggestions out at me... I know there's a lot of threads like this out there, so sorry to start another one.

It will all depend on your own taste, i love the taste of auchentoshan classic or the old select and glenmorangie 10 year old, these are nice n smooth, im not sure of the cost over there but they are both bottom end, if you fancy spending a little more then auchentoshan do a very nice 21 year old, and the glenmorangie 18 year old is a great dram...... whatever you choose just enjoy it.......:)

I've actually been looking at a bottle of laphroaig 10 year. I've been wanting to try lagavulin for a long time, just don't want to pony up the money for a whole bottle, just to get it and hate it!
