My Starter Collection
New here....looks like a lot of great knowledge and recommendations. I've been a wine collector for a while and always enjoy a great glass of scotch. I finally bit the bullet and decided to put together a little selection at home. My small collection now contains:
-Glenmorangie Nectar D'Or -Talisker Distillers Edition TD-S: 5LX (I don't know what all that means, but figured someone might) -Caol Ila 12 year -Lagavulin Distillers Edition (distilled in 93, bottled in 09 - bottle #4 of 497) -Glenmorangie "Extremely Rare" 18 year -Laphroig 10 year I've had Laphroig many times before, kind of a staple so I had to make sure I had one around. Opened the Nectar D'Or last night and really enjoyed it. Quite the opposite end of the spectrum from Laphroig and quite delicious. Sweet, toasty carmel, not too smokey. Looking foward to trying the others and finding more great suggestions on here. Cheers! |
Thinking of adding the following at some point soon. Based on what I have above and my desire to experience some different things, what would you go for first and is there anything you'd skip.
Glenmorangie Signet Talisker 30 Year Oban 18 Year Rare Edition |

Sounds like I should begin the slow acquisition of all three. I really liked the style of the Talisker DE, but didn't find it as peaty as the Caol Ila, and obviously not like the Laphroig. A 30 yr would be a nice addition. I was reading about the chocolate characteristics of the Signet which sounds quite interesting and different.
I had some of my Glenmorangie ER 18 last night....that was stunning stuff! |
