Glenfiddich 21 yr rum, Macallan 18, Duncan Taylor 38 blend

Novice Scotch drinker here, based on the whisky.com editor reccomendation I picked up a bottle of the Duncan Taylor 38. Another review got me the Macallan 18 and 3 sheets prompted the Glenfiddich 21 yr rum cask aged. They are really for pops when he comes down to visit as he is the Scotch drinker. I am a micro beer drinker. I like a good puro tequila though as well as brandy and rum, but have never been able to appreciate bourbons or scotches. I saw on 3 sheets to drink the scotch with a little room temp water to release the malts. Is the way to break in a newbie? Of the 3 is there one to start with. I dont know that I would appreciate the peatiness of scotch. I dont think I have a peaty one in the bunch though. Pops is getting up in years and want this to be a good time for all.

Wow - What a nice selection for 'pops'! I'm sure he will be pleased. If you add water, try just a few drops with just small pouring of scotch. That way if it's not to your liking, then you didn't have much anyway. And, be sure to use just a few drops of bottled spring water. Add a couple of drops, taste, then continue to add to see how the flavors open up. BTW - do not use tap water - nothing like adding chlorine to a fine scotch that took years in the making. And for you - which to start with? I'd start with the Glenfiddich, then the Macallan and then the Duncan Taylor 38.

The reason for the spread is pops was diagnosed with cancer, we lived in Hong Kong growing up and over there when someone was on their death bed they would make them Ginseng tea. Some of the really good roots can sell for thousands of dollars. The thought behind it, if someone just dropped a few thousand on a root and you croak before your children all get over to see you, well your not going to be popular. So you'd better hang in there another day or 2. Pops is not sick yet but I figure if he's got a few bottles of Scotch to finish off it could delay the inevitable. The inevitable for us all.

So enjoy that Scotch!!!!!

I am looking forward to it. The bottle of Duncan Taylor shipped today and will be here Weds!!!!! I have been reading on here and did read you post about adding spring water are drop at a time. So I suppose my question was redundant. I live in Arizona and the water here is piss so most people have bottled water. While not spring water its neutral and no chlorine. Thanks for the tasting order. Pops has had none of those yr Scotch's from those distileries.
