Japanese Whisky
 

I have an unopened bottle of Suntory Special Reserve Whisky (dark bottle with a 70 on back). The label reads: A rare blend of specially reserved malt whiskies, pot-distilled and aged at Yamazaki Distillery. Can anyone tell me the age and value, and if the whisky is still good to drink. Thanks.

We may be able to have it dated for you - but need photos! Be sure to include a clear pic of the label (will need to be able to read it). You whisky should be fine to drink, although not knowing when it was bottled can make a difference. The older it is, the better chances of air seeping in throughout the years - which can affect overall taste. We suggest you open, smell it and make your best judgment! :D

For a value, contact mctears.com or bonhams.com However, I was able to find out that this Suntory blended whisky "Reserve" you have is basically 12 years - although you don't see it on the label. The key malt is white oak from another malt distillery "Hakushu" and the character is gorgeous smell and creamy taste. Is it safe to drink? Likely it's fine, but how it has been stored plays a factor as well as realizing that over time, air eventually seeps in and can alter the taste and color. If you decide to drink it, nose it and go from there. And, as they say in Japanese, Kampai!

BTW - we found out that the bottle you have is not that old and possibly was even bottled last year. The retail price is about $25 in Japan. :D
