I have an old bottle of Glenfiddich Special Old Reserve that I'm enjoying quite a bit and wondering what other expressions will emulate its flavor profile.

How does it compare to the current 12 year old? I have one bottle of the old reserve but I did not open it yet

I know if I like something, but am helpless when it comes to describing flavors but I can say that I don't care at all for the 12, while I like this bottle a lot.
Maybe if I at least knew what styles were kin to the Glenfiddich then I'd have an idea of where to start searching. This stuff, for my tastes is very good, but completely unlike all the Islay stuff I love so well.
Now that I think of it, it might remind me a little of Yoichi 10, but maybe even better, which might not be such a strange comparison, given that the Japanese liked Glenfiddich enough for it to have rated a $250 a bottle price a long time ago. Not only that, but Yoichi is the distillery founded by the man who went to study scotch making in Scotland back in the 20's.

I don't care either for the glennfiddich 12 but I love the 14 year old rich oak. You might want to check it out.

I do want to check it out. It's funny but that bottle of Glenfiddich 12 I bought last year had me all but through with the brand, but this gifted Special Old Reserve has put me onto a new and favored flavor profile that I'm anxious to explore further.
