Looking For Suggestsions

Greetings all,

I am looking for suggestions on a new single malt to try. I bought a bottle of Aberfeldy 12 and really enjoyed it. I liked the "thicker body" where as I find other single malts like Highland Park 15 to be too "thin". My terminology may be off here but I am hoping that people will have a suggestion of what would be a good new single malt scotch to try next.

Aberlour A'bunadh has about the thickest body I've had. It's heavily sherried, and if you're new to scotch be careful as it's bottled at cask strength...in this case roughly 60%. Great stuff though.

Ardbeg Uigeadail.
Smoke, Peat and sherry.
If you don't like islay types the above mentioned Aberlour A'Bunadh is very good.

And it's 120 proof.:eek:Ardbeg Uigeadail is a very, very interesting drink, and unexpected as well if you're already familiar with the standard 10 year bottling. Both are favorites of mine.

How to you feel the Aberlour 12 year compares to the Aberlour A'bunadh? Or the Ardbeg Uigeadail to the Ardbeg 10 year? I would rather pay in the $30 range for a scotch I don't care for rather than the $60-$70 range but I am intrigued by the cask strength idea.

How to you feel the ... Ardbeg Uigeadail to the Ardbeg 10 year?I don't feel much confidence in describing the differences and can only say that I find the 10 to be more straightforward, while the Uigeadail is much more complex and changing, from the first taste and all the way through the finish.

Sometimes I prefer one and sometimes the other, so much to the point that it's harder to have a favorite between the two than it is to think of them as two favorites.

Sorry if I'm not much help but in closing I'll just say that if you like the 10, you'll probably like the Uigeadail as well.

Actually that is helpful, knowing that there are such differences between the two will keep me from buying one and discounting the other. I am looking for a good reliable drink and so far the Aberfeldy 12 meets the bill but I don't want to miss something even better without knowing it. It is kind of a mixed blessing that it looks like I will be looking for years for the "perfect" scotch.

If you've not yet tried the Ardbeg 10 or Laphroaig 10, I'd suggest the Uigeadail as a safer first Ardbeg. Much gentler than the 10, both for nose and taste.
