Need Help For Grandfather On Johnnie Walker!

My grandfather has this box of Johnnie walker Black Label from the 70's I believe. He,s trying to find out some info on it and possibly a value please and ty! It's a 12 ct Johnnie Walker Black Special Edition 50ml bottles from the 70's Sealed and unopened.

I would say it just looks like a shipment of sample bottles, but the fact that there's only 12 and they come in a wood presentation box makes me think it must have been some kind of promotional product.

It looks almost like it was marketed for use in a special event. Like, for 12 people to share a drink during a special occasion. But I don't know for sure. it could just be a shipment of sample bottles that came in a box to put next to the checkout at the liquor store. I couldn't find anything about it anywhere, and I looked on a website solely dedicated to different kinds of johnnie walker bottles. This tells me that it was just one of the thousands of different ackaging and marketing combinations made by Diageo in the attempt to sell more of their JW line.

As for value, who knows.
If I were to take a guess, I wouldn't say it would be worth all that much. Whisky doesnt age that much or that well in the bottle - all the "good" aging is done in the barrel. In addition there's the fact that not everything old is worth money.
Also, it's a blend and in terms of blends the black label isn't all that great. Most people into scotch that are interested in buying old bottles are looking for single malts that they had a long time ago and loved, or are looking for unique single malts with a nice vintage (age).
I'm not saying you won't find a buyer, but if you do it will likely just be someone who's interested in the history of Johnnie Walker rather than someone interested in drinking the samples. Another thing to consider is what the bottles are made of. If they are made of glass, ok, but if they are made of plastic you may not want to drink them. Alcohol leaches off atoms from materials it comes into contact with. You may not wish to drink an alcohol that's been sitting in old plastic for 40 years.
Once again, that would just be my inference, I don't know for sure and it's very possible I'm completely wrong on all of that. Good luck!

The design of labels and the closure being used on these bottles suggest that they are standard bottles of Johnnie Walker Black Label from the early-mid 1980s. Obviously they are packed in a lovely wooden case which could have been produced for gifting at that time, or for a special occasion.
