View Full Version : Age of Ancient Old Parr bottle?

Does anyone know a possible timeframe for the date of this bottle? I've seen a similar bottle of Ancient Old Parr on this forum, which was given a range of 1909-1941. Perhaps the marking on the top and bottom of the bottle could provide clues to narrow the date range? The bottle is sealed with a driven cork and lead capsule (the top of which reads "Specially Selected Pure Old Highland Whisky), and the bottle itself appears to be a two-piece mold with multiple bubbles and imperfections. The bottom of the bottle reads:

REGD NO
547348

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Mike,

You seem to come across alot of very interesting bottles...we should talk more sometime!

I did a bit of research on your bottle, and found a few things for you:

1) The registration # is an English "Design Registration" (like a cross between a copyright & a patent) dating to mid-August 1909.

2) Your bottle was issued by "Macdonald, Greenlees, & Williams LTD": This name configuration began in 1919 & ended in 1926, when the company joined DCL (now Diageo) and became "Macdonald Greenlees LTD".

3) Your bottle also has a driven-cork closure, which is consistant with a pre-1930's Old Parr bottle, as this brand used a Spring-cap after 1931, and Screw-cap after 1959.

Hope that's helpfull for you...Drop me a line sometime, I'd love to talk to you about some of your bottles!

Walter,

Thank you very much for your research on this bottle--it definitely narrows down the time frame!

I will certainly drop you a line and we can chat about our respective collections. I'm always on the lookout for old bottles and it would be nice to chat with a fellow collector!

Perhaps I could pick your brain for information on a bottle of King George IV I've gotten recently? I'll post a thread tonight and you can check it out...

Thanks again for all your help!

Cheers,

Mike
