I turned 21 this week. Of all the new doors that have opened to me, whiskey is the one I want to try the most. Now, I have played Rugby for a couple of years - so I have had beer before. I expect that whiskey as well as many other drinks - will be vastly different. What whiskey(s) would you reccommend to me? I couldn't resist going into the ABC store(Its right next to the bank, ironic? I had to stop by pick up my new debit card and couldn't resist going in) and they suggested I try some samples before I bought a bottle. Someone was kind enough to make some suggestions and tell me a little about the history of each(Which I enjoy very much, I love the history behind things). He selected for me: Johnnie Walker Black Label, Jameson Irish Whiskey, and Woodford Bourbon. They are small sample bottles (managed to get them all for under 7 bucks too); Are they too small for me to get a taste of the whiskey? My roomie also bought me a small bottle of Jack Daniel Number 7. Is there any particular order I should try these in? How about different brands I should try? Any comments or suggestions, especially on storing them (Right now they are in the freeezer and have only been there one day - It was reccommended by the ABC staff to put them there for a day then try them) would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for reading.

You should try as many types and brands of whisky as you can to try to discover what you like and don't like. Personally I don't like bourbon very much, but I still try new releases or brands when offered.
You don't need to store the whisky in the freezer. Any cool dry place out of direct sunlight is fine.
As for how to drink your whisky, my recommendation would be to sip it at room temperature in a Glencairn glass straight up, or with a splash of water. Of course, you should enjoy it any way you want.
Post what you like and don't after you try several whiskies and we can make some recommendations for you. An upscale bar should have a good supply of whisky and bourbon for some serious sampling.:D

Thanks for the advice! Next time I stop by the store I will pick up a few more different samples.

Well, I gave them a try. The Johnnie Walker Black Label, not so much my enjoyment. Tasted like iodine to me. The Woodford bourbon was a little better. Not so much of an iodine flavor. The Jack Daniels # 7 was pretty good, didn't have a real bite to it. There was some there but it felt a lot smoother than then Johnnie or the Woodford. The Jameson seemed the smoothest to me. Kind of tasted like the shot of vodka I had. I think so far it is a tie between the Jack Daniel and the Jameson as to which I think I will pick for the best of that litter (For me anyways)

I think I may have found something that takes to my taste. I trish Bush Irish Honey and Jack Daniel Honey. I enjoyed the both, the Irish Honey the most!
