Ancestor Dewar's Rare Old Scotch Whisky

Hello. I am trying to date a bottle of Whisky. Ancestor Dewar's Rare Old Scotch Whisky with a white label around the neck with the Dewar label.

I have attached pics for ID. The bottom reads SA850 N 7 UGB. There is no codes or numbers on the cap.

It was originally purchased in Scotland by my Great Great Uncle for my Grandfather (I think) but either way it has now passed to a third generation, me. After carting it around all this time my dad is getting impatient to drink it but I tell you I have a hard time opening it - once it's gone, it's gone.

If anyone could ID it or help me find the right person that would be great. I did do a search of your forum and I found a few e-mails that might be able to help but it seemed I should start with the people here.

Hi there! Looks like a screw cap is being used as the closure. Spring caps were replaced by modern screw caps in the late 1950s - early 1960s. Also, does the Coat of Arms on the front label indicate "By appointment to Her Majesty the Queen?" The Royal Warrant of Queen Elizabeth II (the present Queen) was obtained in 1956. This warrant and the modern screw cap both distinguish your bottle from one of Queen Victoria's which was from 1893 until 1901.

Another reference - Any chance you can see numbers on the back or reverse side of the label? Numbers such as "43-66" means the whisky was bottled in 1943. Keep in mind, this is just a rough guide. We will reach out to our contact to see if we can have your bottle narrowed down to a more exact date. :)

From the cap it must have been bottled in the late 1960's or the early 70's, this is confirmed by the use of 70 Proof which was discontinued by the late 70's
