So, last night my wife (for the first time in nearly 10yrs of marriage) asked if she could fix me a drink. Seriously. She may have brought me a beer or two in those ten years, but she had never offered to pour me something. I reflexively said no, as I was overcome with shock, but it gave me an idea!
I still had a bunch of Master of Malt sample bottles, so I pulled three down that have similar taste profiles, and gave them to my wife with a glass, asking her to choose one and pour it without telling me which one was in the glass.
The first three: (1) Johnny Walker Gold, (2) Johnny Walker Blue, and (3) Glenfarclas 15yr.
I nosed the glass, then took a sip. Johnny Walker Gold! She poured number two, but knowing I was choosing between just the two options left, it was too easy to pick Glenfarclas 15yr over JW Blue.
I gave her another 3-pack to set up, and gave it another go: (1) Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban, (2) Balvenie 17yr Madeira Cask, and (3) Glenfarclas 105. Unfortunately, I guessed the Madeira Cask when in fact it was QR.
Maybe I can talk her into pouring me blind from my entire cabinet selection tonight!
