I recently purchased a bottle of Macallan 30 year old for a gift. The person who i am gifting it to is a macallan fan by heart and only drinks macallan. He has had the 15, 18, 21 and i think the 25. I dont know if he had the 30 or not. Do you think he will be pleased with it. What does it taste like compared to the other ages? I just dont wanna make a $1000 mistake.

There are two Macallan 30 expressions: The Macallan 30 (sherry Oak) & The Macallan 30 Fine Oak. Both of these bottles are VERY unique and the tastes are fantastic. But First they are very different: The Macallan 30yr (Sherry Oak) is an intense dark rich example of a well matured 'Macallan'- LIke its little brother the 25yr it's exclusively matured in European Oak seasoned with Sherry for the duration of maturation and it's 3 decades in that amazing cask. The 30yr Fine Oak is a little more complex on the palate, and is of course like the Fine Oak Range is famous for matured in three casks: 1x American Oak seasoned with sherry, 1x European Oak seasoned with sherry & 1 x American Oak seasoned with Bourbon. Either of these expression to a whisky fan would be a dream come true, especially as a gift from a friend. To a Macallan fan, this would quite frankly be a breathtaking gift. However you would have to give it under condition that it would be opened and enjoyed! Thats why we put it in the bottle to begin with! Enjoy
