Hello,

My grandfather recently gave me an unopened quart bottle of Haig & Haig "Dimpled Pinch". I'm trying to figure out just how old this thing is, it's value, and whether or not it would ever be worth opening.

Here are some pictures:

Aside from what you can see, here's what I can tell about the background. The price label (difficult to read in the photo) is $3.95. The back label reads "Purchased from an ALLDERS INTERNATIONAL SHOP" customs stock No. 10. The bottle has some sort of serial number on the back label 6122. In the glass of the bottom bottle, there's the following stamp:

Z898
HAIG & HAIG
A 13
SCOTLAND

My grandfather did a lot of business travel in the 60s and 70s. Based on the label and what I know, it's likely he purchased this in a duty free shop on the way back from a trip to London. If I had to take a wild stab, I'd say 1970s but I don't really know for sure.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance

I will see what I can find out regarding background information. As for value, try contacting Martin Green at Bonham's - his email is martin.green (at) bonhams.com Let him know Joanne from Whisky.com sent you to him. Also, keep in mind a small fee may be involved.

The brand owner of Haig & Haig is Diageo and I'm in contact with their archive manager. I will pass along these photos to them - likely they will email you directly with the information. However, we ask that you keep us all posted on what you find out!

The Diageo Archive has told us that by comparing the photographs you provided to items held in their historic bottle and advertising collection, they have verified the date of your bottle and believe it was produced between 1982 - 1985. As for whether or not to consume, they have always advised agaisnts drinking the contents of a bottle of this age.

Jojo,
May I inquire as to why it is unadvisable to drink the contents of a bottle from th 1980's?
Rarity?
Valuable?
No longer good?
Thanks.
Wyatt

Hi Wyatt - we have been told the flavor may change and won't taste as it should. Keep in mind this was one opinion, so we'd love to hear what others have to say!
