I assume you are referring to the metal seal over the cap. Just twist counter-clockwise and it will break the seal. If you are referring to the plastic one-way spout with the metal-ball regulator, good luck since it is part of the screw-top.

I can't help with your question but was wondering what the going
rate is for a bottle of JWDB in the airports where it is available?

A sharp knife ??
I'll have to look at one when I'm by the liquer store but I know with some others I cut a ring just below the cap where it meets the top of the neck .

Good news! Luxist reports (http://www.luxist.com/2010/09/29/johnnie-walker-double-black-going-global/) JWDB will be available worldwide in March 2011.

Anyone figure out how to open it? After unscrewing the cap, there is a signifcant plastic cap, at the top if it theres an enclosed ball as well. What do you need to do to open the bottle? How much of the plastic eventually comes off and how to do you get into it!?

Turn it completely upside down with cap facing directly into glass so the whisky will knock the ball out of the way. Its just like Diageo's (parent company of JW) Buchanan's bottles.

Thanks for advice - though i'd broken something. What a horrid plastic thingie - stops all those nice sploshing noises and alsao demands patience pouring... No doubt they'll tell us the Whisky will taste all the better for this...

Yep. Just turn it upside down then give it a knock or 2.

My hubby took a mall metal-cutting saw to the top of the bottle, then dug out the ball & then made the hole big enough to properly pour. You can only imagine his comments about the new design!

Everyone had better get used to this kind of a seal as it's a "Non Refillable fitment" that doesn't allow the bottle to be refilled with either a cheaper whisky or even a fake one. These types of seals, and there are a number of different types, have been used for at least 60 years but normally in the Asia Pacific area and in countries where there have been problems but they're becoming much more common..
As Poshest Man said tap the base and once it's been used there's no problems

What the hell were Johnnie Walker thinking about when they stuck the stupid thingy on the top of the bottle.
I will never ever buy another bottle from any company that allows such stupidity to get in the way of a product like this.
I have yet to taste to damn Scotch.
I have been drinking fine Scotch for years and I have never ever had such trouble having a drink.
Don't the idiots at Johnnie Walker test the thing before going to production?
And just in case... It is a stupid idea to hang the bottle upside down and giving it a tap or two to get the flow going. That is a recipe for disaster.
Never ever again.
thumbs down JWDB
