Haven't heard such a rumor!

However, you can always go right to the source to confirm. Oban is part of Diageo's Classic Malts Selection - Send an email to the Malts Team: malts.com@consumer-care.net

Also, here's their US toll-free number: 1-800-494-7155

Cheers!

Hello

I know this email maybe should not have been sent to you to answer, but I was hoping you could either reply, or forward it to the most appropriate person.

I am an avid fan of whisky and whiskey and have a decent "beginner's" collection at home in Ulster. At present I am traveling the world (not on a whiskey/whisky quest) and most conversations on whisky are interesting to me, but someone mentioned to me something I was completely unaware off and I was hoping you could set the record straight.

I was told by someone, who tells me that they are "from Oban" but have a distinctly unOban accent, that the distillery had been burnt down. As Oban has always been in my list of favorites I was of course somewhat concerned. Is the distillery still functioning? Was there a fire at any stage?

Wow! This rumour sure is making its rounds!

We just checked directly with Oban's owner, Diageo (Oban is part of Diageo's Classic Malts Selection). This is a rumour - no fire at Oban! The distillery is operating and the visitor centre is open.

Check it out: http://whisky.com/brands/oban_brand.html

Hope this clears up the rumors!
