Hello all,
This is my first post, I am excited to be here. I am new to collecting antique whiskey, moonshine, and pre prohibition things. I recently bought a wooden whiskey case that I cannot find any information on at all. I sought out this forum specifically for some information on this case.

The whiskey case is from a "Napper Tandy Fine Rye Whiskey". The case also reads "Bottled by Loma Grande Company, Chicago, Illionois. The case actually has 12 empty bottles in it. I have no idea if they are original to the case. I can post pictures if anybody needs.

I am just curious if anybody has any idea what I have. My curiosity is sparked since I cannot find anything online about this whiskey. I would appreciate any information at all about this case.

One final thing about the case that may help you. The case also says "Guranteed under the national pure food and drug act, January 30, 1906."

Thanks to everybody. I am truly excited about this forum.

Regards,
Darrel Bradley

Silver Fish,

Thanks for that info. I didn't think that it was that old. I appreciate you looking that up for me. I wonder if anybody will be able to find something out about the whiskey? I also wonder if the bottles are original to the case. Thanks again for that info, I couldn't find anything on the whiskey or the Loma Grande Co.

Darrel, we consulted with the Chris Morris, master distiller for Woodford Reserve -and- a very knowledgeable historian of American whiskeys. He gave us this information: "Napper Tandy Rye is from the Loma Grande Co, of Chicago (thus the Irish harp symbol on the case). This firm was primarily a wine merchant so this whiskey was its own blend, crafted from bulk purchases. They were a very small player with a bond of $30,000 - $40,000. Their plant was located in Chicago at 17 W. Michigan Street. The brand was not resurrected after Prohibition."

If you want to have it valued, you can try contacting Rik Pike at Bonhams NYC - 917-206-1644. Another option - contact Digger Odell at bottlebooks.com. Good luck and please keep us posted if you're able to obtain an value and any additional history which we can add to this thread!

Sounds good Jojo, I am looking forward to hearing more about this case. Did you happen to ever find out if these bottles could be original to the case, or are they just something that got thrown in the case over the years? Were you ever able to get in touch with Rik concerning the approximate value? I would love to know if it is worth anything.

Thanks again for everybody's input, I really appreciate it.:D
