Just read that Laphroaig are, or have, discontinued their 15 year old for an 18.

Would it be worth hanging onto some bottles of the 15? Anyone tried the 18?

Thanks,
Mike

Feel like I found the Holy Grail today...was in search of the 18 Y/O but found and purchased the last two bottles of Laphroaig 15 Y/O from a liquor store about an hour away from where I live.

The last bottling of 15yo seemed to be 3 years ago as the 18yo was introduced in 2008. I would think that give it a year or two and there will be plenty on eBay for sale.

ALL Laphroaig is wonderful. I have a couple of single cask bottles, which are 10 and 11 years old, and both bottled at 56+% ABV. Both are delicious, and I have not yet sampled a bad dram from them.
For me, age is almost irrelevant, it's all down to the taste, and single cask is always way more interesting and individual!

I just picked up a bottle of the 15 y.o. - the blurb on the tube refers to its having been produced in "tiny" quantities; -is this just [more] merchandising hype or was there really not a lot of the 15 distilled? Anyone have any info or notions on this? Thanks!

That was the question I asked when I got the info on bottlings and it seemed that they only bottled a few hundred cases each year. I checked again and the last 15yo bottling was in the Autumn of 2007 and there's no intention of ever bottling it again.

I've just talked with a pal in Paris and he reckons that he's seen it on sale in a couple of shops there so there must be stock available that's been held onto.

There is some stock out there. Last winter I caught wind of the dicontinuation and stock up on a few bottles (5 to be exact). i will say, at least in the states, I had difficulty tracking them down (1 here, 1 there). The websites claimed to have it but when I put the orders in, like clockwork about 2 days later I was getting a call from the store saying they didn't have it or the website was wrong. Fear not tho, I'm sure with some good digging you can come up with a bottle or two, let me know if you'd like help tracking one down, I love doing it!
