Uhoh, Another One Bites the Dust!

Against all warnings and his own better judgment, one of best buds is about to do the unthinkable. He’s getting married :confused::eek:

A few of his best mates want to offer our condolences by drinking to his lost freedom one of Scotland’s finest. I’m not all that well-to-do, so my experience pretty much caps out at the 12-14 year range. We’re going to spend around $120-$180 on a bottle for this occasion, and I’d like to have some ideas as to what to get.

I was thinking maybe a Balvenie 21 year, but I’d like to hear personal experiences and what others like and why.

You nailed it. The Balvenie 21 is exactly what I was going to suggest. One of my favs in that price range.

Ha! I was thinking Balevenie 21 year Portwood even before I read that's what you were thinking! :D $120 to $180 is a pretty decent amount for a bottle of scotch. Off the top of my head.... Glenrothes Vintage 1985, Old Malt Cask Port Ellen 1982 - 25 year (not sure on price for this one, but it's up there) and Dalmore 15 year (below $100).

And, my condolences to your friend! ;) (I am joking, of course and really mean to send a huge CONGRATS! !)

The best thing about the Balvenie 21yr Portwood, is that even novice drinkers will love it! This isn't necessarily true with all "expensive" bottles.

If it were me, I'd get the Glenrothes, as I have enjoyed their other [less expensive] expressions, and would love to taste the '85 (I've heard so many great things about it!)

A "popular" expensive bottle is the Macallan 18yr, which I don't think is much better than the 12yr, which is MUCH cheaper!
