I have a Macallan 21 yr old that I'm looking to drink over the next month or so. My question is should I keep it in bottle or decanter it? Pros and Cons to each?
Thanks
My preference is to store the whisky in its bottle, but use the decanter when having a party or just a few guests over. It really is a nice touch. Also, properly storing whisky means keeping it out of sunlight and in cool temps - so even if you kept it in a decanter, you wouldn't want to leave it out for an extended period of time anyway. Best to keep in a cool, dark place -and- if the bottle came with a box, I would even go so far as to keeping it in it when not using (I think that's what you're supposed to do).
One more thing, decanter glass tops may not fit properly which could cause evaporation. Don't you think the angels have had enough of their share?! :)

Thanks Jody. Sounds like I'm best off to keep it with my reds in the cellar and break out the new decanter when I have guests. I'll have to have some friends over, it'll give me a chance to use it :)
That's the "perfect place" to store your whisky - lucky you!!

It's more of a wine closet but it'll hold 750 bottles (Not that theres 750 in it right now) and it's temperature and humidity controlled so I'll find room for the scotch ;)
Very cool - sounds great!

Just a footnote to you all: Get your terms right. You 'decant' the whisky into a 'decanter'. 'Decant' is what you do to it, 'decanter ' is the name of the ornamental stoppered glass bottle.
And a word of advice: shop around for the 'best buy'. Prices vary ENORMOUSLY.
Enjoy!

Best Buy sells decanters? j/k
Does anyone know of a good online store to get an engraved decanter?
I'd like to 'decant' my Glenmorangie Original and JWB (Johnny Walker Black) for the Super Bowl and preceding playoff game parties, depending how deep Pittsburgh goes.
Any suggestions?

I wouldn't bother buying a decanter for that crap. Better off spending the money NOT buying JWB (deluxe whisky is a SCAM - sh** whisky aged is still sh** whisky) and spending a little more on a more superior Malt.

I have found that every time I put a bottle into a decanter, the whiskey deteriorates very quickly. Though not kept in the dark, it isn't kept in sunlight either, nor in warm temperatures. But every time I do it, after several days the whiskey tastes as if it is watered down. Curious if anyone else has had similar experiences. Surprised me because I always thought that crystal decanters were supposed to store your finest whiskeys. I just don't get it!

replacements.com is one source.
Another is Ebay. As long as you ask all condition questions, and if you have a return privilege, you will be fine.

Decanters are for parties. Store your whisky in a corked bottle.
It tastes watered down because the alcohol evaporated.
Put tea in your decanter if you just want to look cool.
I have three nice decanters that go unused, and it saddens me. But my whisky tastes great!!
