We were recently asked this question: "I m trying to get a value for a whiskey barrel that is sitting in my game room. It has tax stamps from 1893 and has Jack Daniels signature on an inspection label. I would like to sell it before it degrades any further."
Our Jack Daniel's Whisky.com Expert, Raapio had this to say:
"Attached I have sent some pics of the barrel how it should look like in original condition. Some of the items are easy as they are the reproduction labels. A couple of the items were sold in the hardware store in the mid to late 1970's and into the early 1980's, such as small posters (about 8" X 10") that are repros of labels or larger posters. I believe the Hardware store sold these barrels already decorated with that old Jack paperwork.
Attached also a copy of the General & Hardware store catalogue showing the barrel.
But a value is very hard to give..... in this condition it's not worth more than $ 100,- the barrel condition is bad and the labels are torn. It's a pity. In good condition a barrel like this another story it would easily go for $ 350,- I guess...."
