Viewer's Comments about Ladyburn

Ladyburn was a modern distillery which was built in 1966 within the Girvan grain distillery complex. It was a Lowland partner to the Highland Glenfiddich and both distilleries contributed to William Grant's blended whiskies. However, unlike Glenfiddich, Ladyburn was never intended for consumption as a single malt. There have been independent bottlings of Ladyburn, but it's rare and difficult to find since the distillery closed just a Ayrshire Coastfew years after it was opened. The Girvan grain distillery is still in operation.

Ladyburn's house style has been described as perfumed and dry, and best drunk as an aperitif.

Nose:
A perfect balance of delicate fragrant honey with a suggestion of oak.

Taste: Initially, beautifully soft on the palate, a mellow rounded malt hinting at sweet and vanilla notes. The finish is classic dry oak, typical of the finest Lowland malt.

Comments: This vintage cask of Ladyburn single malt is unique in character, no two casks are ever the same. It has matured for 27 years in a bourbon wood cask that lends its own special attributes to the whisky.

Distillery's Tasting Notes

Ladyburn Whisky Distillery

Ladyburn Distillery
Ladyburn / Girvan Distillery

The Ladyburn Distillery was built by William Grant & Sons Ltd in 1966. Built within the Girvan grain distillery, its purpose was to contribute to Grant's blended whiskies. Situated about a mile from the Ayrshire coast, Ladyburn's location was considered ideal. The water source was good, labour was available and there were good communications via sea and rail. Ladyburn was also close to the blending halls of Central Scotland.

The distillery was very compact and one person could control the entire process. By the mid 1970s, Ladyburn distillery was closed.
