You will find Glen Moray Distillery nestling on the banks of the River Lossie in the Western quarter of the ancient city, and royal burgh of Elgin. Elgin itself is an historic city, but not the least of its claims to fame is the fact that it is the capital of Speyside – a beautiful region in the north of Scotland synonymous throughout the world with superlative malt whisky. Glen Moray Single Malt Whisky has been distilled here since 1897 by a small dedicated team of craftsmen. In over a century of distilling at Glen Moray, much has changed, however the ingredients, processes and skills of those responsible for producing Glen Moray remain constant.

The original road into Elgin passes through the distillery grounds under the shadow of Gallow Hill, where executions were carried out until the end of the 17th century. This was an important road in times gone by and some of Scotland's legendary historical figures including St Columba, King Duncan and Macbeth – after the Battle of Torfness – and Bonnie Prince Charlie are said to have passed along it. Today the Glen Moray distillery enjoys a much more peaceful existence, concentrating on the serious business of producing the classic Speyside single malt whisky.

Glen Moray is a classic Speyside single malt whisky owned by Glenmorangie. Glen Moray is a quality malt whisky from the heart of Speyside. We use ex bourbon barrels sourced from North America to mature Glen Moray and these produce a whisky with rich and spicy characteristics. These casks deliver a superior product that has a smooth and well-rounded taste.

In recent news, Golden Glen Moray Mountain Oak Malt has now won two accolades since its launch at the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival (SSWF) in May of 2007. Firstly, it was awarded runner-up at the SSWF awards in the 13-20 years category. And it has also won a Gold Medal, Best in Class for the category of Speyside Cask Strength 15-17 years at the International Wines and Spirits Competition 2007 (IWSC). Other Glen Moray expressions also picked up medals at the IWSC: Silver for Glen Moray 12 and 16 years old and a bronze for Glen Moray Classic.

Glen Moray is available in a range of ages and vintages that will appeal to new malt drinkers as well as connoisseurs looking for something a bit more special.

Aroma: Wonderful toffee sweetness of tablet and melt in the mouth fudge at full strength. The sweet creamy theme continues with vanilla ice cream, chocolate truffles and butterballs coated in sugar. Rich spice notes of ground nutmeg and cinnamon sticks are discovered behind the sweetness, with a trace of freshly sawn wood and just a hint of mint.

Adding water takes you back to the sweet shops of your childhood with liquorice laces, cinnamon and aniseed balls, sherbet, pineapple cubes and ice cream soda. After this initial confectionary sweetness, fruity aromas of cherries, blueberries and blackcurrants emerge along with fruit and nut chocolate, spiced orange peel and pencil sharpenings.

Taste: Spicy, warming and richly sweet with the oiliness of glacé cherries coating the palate initially, before the fruit discovered on the nose – pears, pineapples, cherries and blueberries becomes apparent now topped with a dusting of spiced cocoa powder. Sweet flavours of vanilla custard and fudge wrapped in chocolate glide over the palate as hazelnuts, pistachios and warming nutmeg and ginger spice lingers in the background.

Finish: Long, sweet and spicy leaving nutmeg, cinnamon and pistachio nuts.

Glen Moray is a small authentic working distillery without the tourist frills, just bags of atmosphere and real people going about their business – making whisky. Here you have the opportunity to experience the reality of malt whisky distilling. The delight of Glen Moray is that your tour guide could be one of the distillery craftsmen themselves. It could be the stillman or the mashman who welcomes you and shows you round, or even the distillery manager himself – Graham Coull.

The great advantage of this is the authenticity of the introduction – each guide knows the process of whisky making like the back of his hand. So, at Glen Moray, you will gain an unforgettable insight into how water and barley are transformed into 'the water of life'.

When Beer Gave Way To Whisky
Glen Moray has an authentic work-a-day atmosphere, which has continued largely unchanged down through the generations since 1831, except that originally Glen Moray was built as a brewery. It was converted to a distillery in 1897 and for over a hundred years has been producing its distinctive smooth Speyside malt.

Built in the classic layout of a Scottish farm steading, the distillery features an attractive courtyard, which is surrounded by traditional low ceiling warehouses. But it's not the aesthetics that make the greatest impression on you at Glen Moray. It's the people. The distillery craftsmen.

We've Been Welcoming Visitors Here Since 1897
A small, friendly and informal distillery, Glen Moray is situated in the city of Elgin, the historic capital of Speyside. The area around Elgin is known as the Laich of Moray and has a mild climate. Indeed, an old Moray saying proclaims that the Laich of Moray has forty days more summer than any other part of Scotland – making Glen Moray one of the sunniest distilleries in Speyside.

How To Get Here
Glen Moray Distillery is situated approximately 35 miles east of Inverness on the western outskirts of Elgin just off the A96. From Inverness, as you arrive in Elgin cross the river Lossie then turn right off the A96 into Wittet Drive and follow the signs to the distillery.
