 Edradour
is the last original 'farm' distillery in Perthshirea and
nestled within a pocket glen in the hills above Pitlochry
in the Southern Highlands. The distillery produces a unique,
single Highland malt whisky, to be enjoyed in recognition
of those small, significant moments that make up the ebb and
flow of life.
Edradour
is produced in Scotland's smallest distillery - and is hand
made today as it was over 150 years ago by just three men
who are devoted to the time-honoured methods of whisky making.
Indeed equipment used at the distillery has remained unchanged
since the day the distillery opened and is only just capable
of producing commercial quantities. Only 12 casks of whisky
are produced a week, making Edradour single malt a rare pleasure
for a fortunate few.
A truly hand-crafted malt, Edradour is golden in the glass,
with a delicious aroma of sugared almonds and a hint of Oloroso.
The smooth, creamy, light malty taste is followed by a mellow
warming finish. Highland malts enjoy a unique depth of flavour
and quality that's the result of a fine blend of altitude
and mountain water. For many connoisseurs, with its exquisitely
smooth and creamy texture, with just a hint of smokiness,
Edradour is the jewel in the Highland crown. |

EDRADOUR
SINGLE MALT SCOTCH 1966 SIGNATORY UNCHILLED BOTTLING
Colour: Gold with amber glints.
Nose: Detects some praline, prune and honey hints.
Palate: Perfumed; liquoriced, fruity (apple,
apricot) and spicy (pepper)
Finish: Sweet and recalls toffee and malted barley.
Comment: This single malt needs to be aired to
reveal all its smoothness and fragrances. |

The
Edradour Whisky Distillery
Looking at the distillery from the breath-taking surrounding
landscapes, it is not unlike stepping back into a scene from
Brigadoon. It was built in the early nineteenth century, and
seems hardly to have changed in the last 170 years. Observing
the cluster of whitewashed buildings with red doors, one visitor
felt it was 'as if some little Victorian lass had grown tired
of playing beside the burn and had left her toy houses there
to gladden the landscape'.
On
the inside, precious little has changed either. There's the
same wooden equipment which is used to mash and ferment the
whisky in the same time-honoured ways. There are the smallest
copper stills in Scotland - the smallest permissible by law.
Our Morton refrigerator used in the distilling process was new-fangled
in its day, of course, but is now the only working model of
its kind left in the industry.
It takes the man-power of just three men to produce Edradour
- three men whose expertise and attention to detail produces
the most unique malt whisky in the world. Using
skills handed down over the generations, the men of Edradour
distillery follow the standards of those who have gone before.
John Reid, David Ramsbottom and James Kennedy continue to produce
the finest single malt whisky available.
Starting in 2008 Edradour will be bottled in a new purpose built
facility as a result of Signatory Vintage, (owner of Edradour)
relocating its operations from Edinburgh.
Visit the Distillery (Tours)
If you have been to the Edradour distillery it is easy to understand
why it is so popular with visitors. Being the smallest and most
picturesque distillery in Scotland it's a must for visitors
on the whisky trail, however it also offers a lot more.
It's a charming and undisturbed niche of Scotland where the
people are genuinely warm and hospitable, the landscape glorious
and the lifestyle untouched by the perils of the twentieth century.
Situated
in the heart of Tayside by the beautiful township of Pitlochry
and surrounded by the wilds of the Grampians, Edradour is a
wonderful diversion for hill walkers. If you're en-route to
Aviemore or Inverness it's certainly worth dropping in.

Tours of Edradour
Tours of Scotland's smallest distillery are completely free
of charge. You'll be welcomed with a "wee dram" of
Edradour with our compliments in the Malt Barn where we'll talk
you through the history of Edradour and the whisky maker's art.
Then we'll take you around the distillery to see the traditional
methods of whisky making, where you'll see Edradour being hand-crafted
today as it was in Victorian times.

Getting There
From Pitlochry - Take the A294 from the center of Pitlochry,
pass through Moulin and after a few miles take a narrow road
on the right, signposted Edradour. Road is narrow.
Parking / Reception
The parking is after the distillery entrance on the right. Walk
up along the Edradour Burn to the reception on the right. Mind
your head as you enter, this really is the smallest distillery
in Scotland.
