Viewer's Comments about Drumguish

Drumguish is a five year single malt whisky produced at the Speyside Distillery. The distillery takes its name from the original Speyside Distillery in Kingussie which started in 1895 and only produced until 1905. It was demolished in 1911.

Speyside Distillery was built following one man's dream to have his own malt whisky distillery. George Christie, a well known merchant, chose the tranquil spot at Tromie Mills, below the small village of Drumguish and three miles from Kingussie to build his dream. George Christie commissioned Alex Fairlie, a dry stane dyker, to build the distillery. Alex single-handedly laid all the stonework over a period of nearly 20 years and the distillery started production on the 3rd of December in 1990. The old mill and water wheel were retained from the original distillery and are still in working order.

Drawing from the wonderful crystal clear waters of the River Tromie, The Speyside Distillery houses some of the smallest, yet most cleverly proportioned stills in Scotland. These two key factors, allied to our distilling secrets, that have been passed from generation to generation, have earned Speyside the reputation of 'the best whisky in the world'.

DRUMGUISH
SINGLE HIGHLAND MALT SCOTCH WHISKY

Drumguish Single Malt Scotch Whisky
DRUMGUISH SINGLE HIGHLAND MALT SCOTCH WHISKY

The pure local water coloured and flavoured by the peat of the Cairngorm mountains, together with the fine malted barley from the Moray Firth region, and, of course, our unsurpassed attention to detail.

Nose: Soft and medium-sweet. quite fresh with a slight menthol character, gently peated with a slight earthy touch.

Finish: Of good length, almost dry with a good peaty flavour.

Taste: Medium-dry, minty, with good body and a firm, but gentle dark earthy smokiness.

Colour: Pale mid amber with old gold highlights.

Tasting Notes by Drumguish

Speyside Distillery

The Speyside Distillery is located on the banks of the River Tromie in the Speyside region of the Scottish Highlands. The distillery is closer to the source of the River Spey than any other distillery in Scotland, providing access to the area's richest, purest water. The rivers of Speyside are recognised for their part in producing great whisky and their banks are home to many fine distilleries.

The distillery is not a large production plant, being equipped with a four tonne GlenSpey mash tonne, four 20,000 litre wash backs, a 13,000 litre wash still and a 7,000 litre spirit still, both stills being made by Forsyth's of Rothes, mass production never being one of Mr Christie's objectives.

The distillery draws its water from the old mill lade which originally ran the waterwheel that powered the old mill that gives the site its name; the same water source is used for process and cooling in the distillery. The distillery has only 4 employees, they lovingly watch over the small batch production.

The Speyside Distillery does not have a visitor centre.

My first single malt whisky purchase and one that I still like. Try a sip of water after a sip of Drumguish to bring back a tone of honey.

Excellent whisky although I normally like my whisky a bit more smokey. Good quality for a good price.
Love the fact that it is still an independent distillery. Good for them.

I agree with JAF, the scotch is very good and affordable. Unfortunately, Basha's grocery store stopped carrying it and now I can't find it in Tucson, AZ.
